As @lexington mentioned, we have only seen 30 second updates.
I’m going to hold back my thoughts further until the full bulletins air. We probably all should too.
No doubt there will be changes over the coming weeks/months as they tweak the package - pretty sure they made small tweaks when Eyewitness News first launched too.
Not one kernel of news extra. Not one minute. surely there’s a strategy, a press release that outlines what they’re actually going to do to be “first”. It’s all just very bizarre.
While I agree, I would also argue that the globe (with scanlines, which are disgusting for this day and age) would undoubtedly form a part of their new branding. Yes there might be some other changes but it’s a sign of things to come (and not a particularly good sign).
So a thought about tonight’s Adelaide news update not being on set. Back when Eyewitness News launched, the updates that day were presented standing up looking away from the incomplete set:
Maybe there are some set tweaks in progress for Adelaide? It could just be replacing the Adelaide skyline with the generic new map (why!?! Hopefully not!) … or maybe some bigger changes? … or nothing at all! We’ll find out tomorrow, I guess!
They already had a world map in the previous package. The map in the update package is less noticeable as it is fully obscured by random horizontal lines.
It’s quite clean. Yes, it does look slightly amateurish and rushed. They should give it the CBS polish treatment, and it would look a lot better.
Overall, I like the quality, respectable, old-school world news service vibe. (By the way, Ten did see themselves like this during their BBC-style set days of “Ten News” under Carroll.)
Brisbane update looks better than both Melbourne and Sydney. Not loving the globe and the theme seems too techno. Not really getting the point of ‘First’ either - if ‘News First’ is the brand it needs to be distinguished a bit more from the 10.
Weather graphics look promising though - I like the way the city in the background moves but 7 day forecast probably a bit too much information to take in in such a short period of time on that Brisbane update.
