Breaking News in VR land

This looks awesome, possibly the nicest looking ‘Breaking’ we have between the networks at the moment. Seven/Nine tend to look like a giant siren/fire alarm has gone off. The realism is better/way more realistic in the close up shots.

I’m noticing what looks like a cable cover chroma bump near the bottom of desk below the wide wall. Or it’s CGI dirt?

I actually quite like that.

Why can’t the main backdrops be more like this though ?

This 100%

You just know that the team in Melbourne has been waiting for some breaking news to come along son they could unveil this. And then they get 2 reports in a row

Just catching up on the new Melbourne set, and I must say, for a network as cash strapped as 10, it certainly is an impressive effort.

I get the criticisms of the scale of the VR and feel that’s valid, but that’s offset by the technical impressiveness of what has been achieved here, in particular when you compare it to other VR efforts like at Ch7 Perth. Even small things like the changing skyline as the sun sets are nice touches which elevate the presentation and make it feel like 10 really took its time to get the set right (if only they did that with other areas of its news division!). It also opens up 10 to implementing similar set ups in other markets.

The question now is, will 10 look at implementing the same technology into Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide? Or is this a one off?

Also of note, they’ve fixed the standing presentation elements so that the presenters have a reflection off the “floor”.

Plus some other nice angles

Yes. Looks a lot better. Subtitle but looks more natural.

The VR set is looking really good. I feel it’s only let down by the glass window roof and the fake newsroom that the weather preview comes from.

100%. If they could remove those two shots or fix. It would look almost 99% real.

This was never a nice angle

The set is amazing, but this angle is not

They really need to bring back headlines though. You could do an amazing headlines sequence on that set.

The shot of the roof looks fantastic and quite realistic similar to Tvnz breakfast. The creativity is second to none and far better than the shot of some lights. The only point which could do with some adjusting is the newsroom weather screen.

Why do they keep using that angle???

Cos it looks awesome.

No one is pausing and it’s like 2 seconds max on air.

Look at where Jen is. If she was on a real set she’d never stand there. The proportions just don’t work.
