I don’t think she wants to. Hence current hybrid setup.
Then that’s her decision. They should give it to Tiff then.
Never understand this line of commenting.
Kate didn’t force 10 to accommodate her Sydney location, the network made it work because they wanted her to be the face of the new Adelaide bulletin.
If the network was so intent on having it presented locally in Adelaide, they’d have offered it to someone else. They’re not short or choices, Alan Murrell etc.
It would absolutely be better if the news was actually presented out of Adelaide, but (for now) seems the network are okay with how the setup was working.
Does it matter which studio she’s reading it from if the content is the same?
I’m sure she reads and present it the same whether she’s physically in Adelaide or Sydney.
Unless there’s a view that she can’t be connected to the Adelaide community and understand local issues if her life and family is now Sydney-based?
I thought the Sydney thing was also to accommodate her husband whose job based him out of Sydney and they came up with this hybrid model. Not ideal but it is a form of local news presented in front of a green screen. If they had a proper studio and set up in Adelaide then it would be imperative she present from Adelaide.
Kate got the job because 10 wanted a familiar face to present the news. When Kate was presenting before her leave, the ratings were sitting in the low to mid-20s. Since Tiff started reading the news, the ratings have climbed into the high 30s and even 40s.
And presenting out of Adelaide.
True. But considering the average viewer at home likely wouldn’t notice whether it’s presented from Adelaide or not, it’s probably not worth focusing on. It does seem viewers have warmed to Tiff more than Kate as a presenter.
Seems like the bulletins ratings have been climbing since the return of a dedicated bulletin and in line with the network. Local presentation is probably the icing on the cake as well as the halo effect of a locally based presenter (rather than perhaps the presenter themselves as a personality).
Kate is fine but certainly not as big a drawcard as 10 treat her like. If she wants to read Adelaide’s news she should do it from Adelaide. Tiff, who is much better at weather than reading the news, is an improvement anyway, but there are plenty of names in Adelaide who’d be a good get for 10- Jess Adamson, Belinda Heggen etc.
She did present the 5:00pm news when production returned to Adelaide (from Melbourne) in 2011, so if she were to return to the network it could be a case of history repeating.
IIRC, Rebecca Morse moved to the 6:30pm bulletin but returned to 5:00pm after the former bulletin was axed after just over two months.
yeah
Just a thought, could 10 perhaps get 60 minutes onto it since their American owners own the brand in America, if/when Nine’s contract expires.
Nine have a long standing deal for 60 Mins, CBS (and Nine) would be crazy to throw that away - if it’s at all even possible. I’d say they make more from it by on-selling the rights to use the name, any IP and is probably one of those legacy deals for life of the series type thing.
I thought that 10 has the exclusive rights to 60 Minutes content already (but can’t use the 60 Minutes name so it is repackaged). They on sell to Nine as required but Nine rarely seems to show US 60 Minutes stories now.
Sounds familiar. Anybody remember the last time they saw a 60 Mins US story repackaged on 10?
Don’t they use them as filler in the Lunchtime news?
Didn’t think they were 60 Mins, fairly sure they usually use the CBS Newsparth reports which are for affiliates and owned stations?
Yes I remember seeing some 60 minutes reports on Lunchtime, although usually not in full
Tuesday looks pretty good too especially the east coast. 10 News closing in on ABC News with 65,000 and well ahead of The Chase in 25-54. Perth an problem again.
