Ten News Content and Appearance

With the +1 channel it’s almost on the hour every hour.

The problem is this only applies to an ever shrinking portion of the population who don’t know how to use catch-up streaming services.

If I get home at 6.45pm and to watch 9 News from the start it’s simple to do so. Then I can watch the full bulletin on demand from 9Now or even YouTube shortly after 7pm.

The only reason I’d have to tune into 10’s new bulletins is for a major breaking story, and then 7 and 9 would likely pre-empt their scheduled programming for breaking news anyway.

How would you meet Australian content quotas.om you dropped the Lunchtime News.

Without 10 News Lunchtime Australian quota

DAYTIME: 3-3.5 HOURS

EVENINGS 4.5-5 HOURS.

The above would be 1-1.5 hours short of the requirements

Do repeats of Deal count towards the local quota?

Air some sort of intro/headlines at 5:59:30 in sync with Seven and Nine and focus heavy on live crosses to recap big stories I reckon.

I think 10 QLD could grow in this slot given Sharyn is behind the desk

They need to be demarcated bulletins imho.
Without wanting to get into mock promo territory - promote both together. They can’t compete on depth of news with 7/9. But there are ways to be creative. Promote the 5pm as the comprehensive bulletin and 6pm as ‘everything you need to know in 30 minutes’. Even lean into giving the viewers the ‘choice’.

Don’t expect viewers to watch both, most won’t. 10 for quite some time has just promoted their news the same as 7/9, when they don’t have the same resources. Promote the USP you do have at 6pm (30 min bulletins, getting into the evening’s entertainment quicker etc)

Excellent analysis

With very obvious branding in promos, EPG and in the bulletin to make it easy to understand that they’re separate and you can tune in at 6pm without missing anything.

i.e. “10 News at 5”, then “10 News at 6”

Except their current strategy, at least on weekends, has been to almost trick people into not switching over at 6pm by always running a few minutes late with the weather report. The “recap” bulletin starts around 6:05pm and is presented as something like “another check of the headlines” rather than “we’re now going to replay the exact same stories in full that you already saw an hour ago”

It was nice seeing Sandra hand Taylor Ryan, who had a tickle in her throat, a cup of water during Sydney’s weather tonight.

New state based promos are getting shot this week.

Should we have a poll on how long they’ll last on air?

During The Traitors opening week and that’s it

Unless they’re interested in airing 30 sec, 15 sec and 10 sec versions in all time slots across all day parts then it’s a waste of time and energy.

Time, money and energy. Agree. They have a bad habit of using them for 1 week and then we never see them again. They need a variety of them and them to be spread across socials as well. But alas won’t happen.

ha it’s all good to film promos but another for them to actually get aired.

I’d love to see some real localisation. Have the team walking around key city places

Is everyone flying to Sydney for it?

No. Although I assume all the presenters would be in Sydney for the Logies, it would have made sense to fly everyone here a day earlier and get new team promos. Promos like the ones we did back in 2019

Too logical

It appears the Late News was pre-recorded tonight. It’s currently premiering on Youtube despite still airing on 10.
