Ten News Centralisation 2020

I was definitely aware it happened but was unaware that it occurred in 2000, thought it was a bit later than that.

I’m a northern boy so my knowledge of the west coast can be vague at times, particularly 10 who only came onto our screens in the late 00’s up here :upside_down_face:

Isn’t Melbourne’s current studio the one that Adelaide used back in the day?

The Perth bulletin will be live…the same as it is on the weekends. Produced from Perth but presented from Sydney.

Correct…same as weekends. Produced from Perth but presented from Sydney LIVE.

A: Nine would never be stupid enough to do that (at least I hope not anyway).
B: In the very highly unlikely chance that Peter Overton was to be dropped by Nine, you’d think Seven would instantly try and swoop his services up.

Not sure about everyone else, but I’d be extremely surprised if Narelda Jacobs didn’t present the Perth edition of 10 News First when presentation moves (back) to Sydney.

Probably considerably more familiar with viewers over there than “Sandra Who?” - well, she hasn’t regularly been seen on screens over in the West for nearly a decade!

…and unfortunately for Georgina Lewis, I cant see any of the other three networks picking up her services. Why? Well, let’s look at the competition in Queensland:

Seven: Already has a popular female co-presenter in Sharyn Ghidella, with a weekend presenter (Katrina Blowers) who’s probably guaranteed to be promoted into the main chair when she retires.
Nine: Andrew & Melissa have been co-presenting the bulletin for 11 years. Enough said really.
ABC: In theory, the news service I think we’d be most likely to see Georgina move to especially if they want a female lead presenter. In reality, highly unlikely due to the national broadcaster having budget restraints of their own and possible concerns that Lewis’ reading style is a bit too tabloid for ABC News.

Georgina could be used on afternoon news bulletins. I wouldn’t mind her presenting weekend news on Nine?

I can see Jonathan Uptin potentially moving markets if a decent vacancy arises in Sydney etc. He has hosted Today Show as both main presenter, news and sport on multiple occasions over the years so Nine have demonstrated somewhat interest in him (even though his “fan base” is basically Darwin only, maybe Brisbane now).

I could see Georgina doing weekends on 9 with Jonathan focusing on his main role which is sports director or something. Leave the presenting up to Georgina and he can be a fill in. I’m still shocked they are getting rid of Josh Holt, he would be a perfect candidate for the national weather presenter at 10.

Ideal scenario- Georgie on 7 vs Wendy Kingston on 9 weeknights at 6.

I think Greg Pearce was still with Ten News around 2000 , I was 15 at the time. Not sure when he actually departed Ten News though, will do a search.

Yes. Their old studio is now used for sports specials. ATV now use the studio on the floor of the newsroom which was previously used for Adelaide. They moved the same day Candice Wyatt began co-anchoring.

That’s right

Greg Pearce definitely moved to the East Coast in 2000. Sometimes presented the Late News and on at least one occasion, co-presented a Sydney 5pm bulletin alongside Jessica Rowe when Ron Wilson was unavailable.

As for when Greg departed Ten News, Wikipedia (not always the most reliable of sources, I know) says 2003.

Funny how 10 News First is featured in ViacomCBS ANZs latest promotional about audience growth.

I highly doubt it. Narelda presenting the Perth bulletin is more likely and Chris Bath reverting to a double shift on the weekend.

Double shift for those behind the scenes though.

This is bs…

I thought they said Gossage was staying with an expanded role??? Complete disrespect by Channel 10 to someone that has given so much :rage::rage::rage:

The bean counters do not care. It has been so horrible for all these great people and 10 loses its identity. I fear more things will be striped out by the ViacomCBS. The new strategy is a disaster as opposed to when CBS was running things.

This is not bean counters. This is fight for survival. This is smart and strategic. Money on 5 essentially the same local news re-done in every city is not money well spent

And 10s identity has NEVER been news

And it’s identity is certainly not local news

If we want 10 to thrive as a strong network they need to put money to work in the smartest places. That is primetime. Not 53,000 viewers at 5 in Adelaide

Then why give it no identity rather than just put the axe through their entire News department?

It’s gonna look like a sick dog with cancer.

This is much worse than the early 2000’s. At least they kept sport and weather local and Brisbane was spared. This time round, weather should have remained local. Better to have someone in the region. Hopefully Perth gets Narelda to soften the blow.
