Ten News Centralisation 2020

Honestly with an average 45,000 in the ratings so far this year I can’t imagine they’ll drop much lower than that - They might lose another 10,000 to Nine perhaps?

I get that, but I mean, Brisbane and Adelaide won’t have the opportunity to have any real live crosses for local stories (unless in Brisbane’s case they decide to air the live cross to Sydney as well). It will all be prerecorded, or “look live”.

Ah yes. That’s right. Unless it is relevant to Sydney, of course.

Time differences mean it won’t ever be live for Adelaide and it will only be live for Brisbane for half of the year

Yeah sorry should have made that clear - the broadcast will be live in Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane for half of the year, only added that as someone said the whole thing would be pre-recorded.

Surely we’ll be hearing presenters say “please continue to support 10 News First with our relaunched bulletins from Monday” while signing off from the final local editions on Friday the 11th of September?

Another thing that worries me is the prospect that some from the already lean 10 News First reporting teams could soon be shown the door, remembering how several reporters (I seem to recall Paul Bongiorno and seven from the Sydney newsroom leaving) were axed just a few weeks after the demise of Wake Up and non-5pm news bulletins in 2014.

Dont discount the ability to react to situations throughout the day and change who gets live and who gets delayed.

I was wondering, could these presenters have been “stood down” rather than made redundant? Would 10 have been eligible for JobKeeper payments to keep them in the roles?

Just to make it clear, I’ve been told any of what I’ve told you could change before September 14 - this is the latest information that I have.

Viacom CBS has expanded Channel 5 since purchasing the station. https://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/broadcast-awards-2020/c5-scoops-broadcast-awards-channel-of-the-year/5146926.article. It seems these cutbacks here are a direct result of our current economic situation, especially considering what they have invested in 10 in the last few years.

Lol - good out

There’s no longer a role for them moving forward, and presumably $1500 a fortnight would represent a pay cut for them.

The person telling me the info said that they believe things will change.

Of course

Depends on the way they were applying. If they applied as an entity under CBS Viacom (Au) or 10 on 01/03/2020 I would think they would be eligible. If they applied under CBS (US) they may not be.

Can’t give definites, don’t work in the ATO

source: dude trust me

Yeah I would think most of them would be earning 2x or 3x that.

If Daily Bailey is reading this. I hope to see you pumping it out on prime soon. You’ll always be the CEO of giving me the forecast where you get it all.

ps: I’ll bid for a LifeSize cutout of the CEO of 5:55

LOL! Prime7 already has a weather (in some regions, news) presenter who’s a somewhat milder Tim Bailey: His name is Daniel Gibson.

The shameful thing here is most non media people and people who generally can’t interpret what they read will just think News has been axed in some states and the ratings will plummet, the brand will become toxic and then news will be axed all together. There are better ways to cut costs and again 10 have fucked it all up.

These hybrid local bulletins are not local. They’re going to be a mess. And given 10 can’t even broadcast pre recorded segments in HD the bulletin will look like shit between the recorded parts and the live parts. All of this really stinks.

They clearly didn’t realize how crucial news is in producing content and then to leverage that content through economies of scale. Just stupid stupid stupid.

7 - the most Adelaide of all Adelaide stations - is not essentially airing Melbourne news at 4 into Adelaide and ratings have not dropped and there has been almost zero fall out

@TV.Cynic even said viewers were up a tick in Adelaide- even with relentless hyper local Melbourne lockdown content
