Ten News and Current Affairs

Did Christina change her hairstyle from one update to another? Or was this all in the one update?

She changed her hairstyle on the third update.

2000 - at the same time Adelaide moved to Melbourne, from memory.

That late 1990s era of sets was actually really, really nice. Uniform look across the network with the desks (maybe excluding Sydney?) but hyper local with the cityscape backgrounds.

Yeah, Ten Sydney would’ve used the newsroom as its backdrop as of their mid-April 1997 move to Pyrmont.

I’d assume it was at/around this time that the standardised desks with a local backdrop were introduced in other markets.

Christina Morrissey was always fantastic on 10 News. Is she still presenting?

CNN & Ten were a pretty special and unique partnership, including the overnight streaming, top and tailed by John Gatfield (another fantastic anchor). Besides the individual broadcasts of NBC Today, NBC Nightly News and ABC World News Tonight on 7 and 9, it was my first real eye opener to international TV news and made me the news junkie I am today

Last time I checked, she was one of the presenters of Destination WA on Nine.

The Gulf War coverage was days after they launched their 1991-2018 logo

So what was Ten’s “brand new look at news”?

I think that promo might’ve been for the debut of George Donikian on Adelaide’s Ten Eyewitness News.

Wow - thank you for posting that, it is really appreciated. Was always a fan of George Donikian but this was even a little before my time so great to fill in the television history blanks.

Ian Leslie Promo 1990:

I remember Ian didn’t last very long. A matter of months.

Were the ratings really that bad to bring in Eric Walters from Nine?

If I’m not mistaken, Ian Leslie went on sick leave around April and never returned?

There may have been a short period of time where Ten used a fill-in reader on weeknight Sydney bulletin (probably Ron Wilson), as Eric Walters didn’t begin his stint in the chair until June.

Anne Fulwood had a go in the lead anchor spot from memory.

If I recall correctly. Ian Leslie also had a documentary unit at 10 that promised big stories but was culled when Leslie left. The big one he did was a story on Phar Lap that rated its socks off.

I really loved the end boards of 10’s news, current affairs and tabloids around the 1991-1992 era. There’s a slick 3D feel to them led by the classic twirling (ten) logo that contrasts to the flatter look of the rest of the presentation. So cool.

btw the tabloids would work well today, maybe post 9pm, I reckon.

Rare find, a Chris Masters report on Page One in 1988. Research conducted online suggests this comes from the first program that went to air.

Some Melbourne updates from 1989 with Tracy Curro and a young David Brown on weather. Fast and snappy and I like the closing end boards too.
