He also hosted Meet the Press for a number of years and I think “the last shout” or late shout program from memory.
A Ten News radio ad:
No idea when it’s from, but it was on some jingle production house’s website.
I did find this promo from 1994 uploaded by @Zampakid which uses a similar slogan but different jingle:
Is it possible that SoundShed Music produced a few versions of the “First To Know” jingle in the 1990s? Because there’s also this one from 1998:
As far as I’m aware, only Ten Capital, Perth and maybe Adelaide (with all three under the same ownership during the Early 90s) used the “First To Know” campaign. Don’t think it was ever used by the East Coast Tens.
I really loved that graphics package. Felt crisp and modern yet timeless as well. It would still look competitive with current packages IMO.
Not a bad looking set for Adelaide. This was coming out of Melbourne at the time.
It was horrid but not as bad as what was to come when Rebecca Morse joined - that hyperactive fake set still haunts.
I actually quite liked the Melbourne newsroom set for the Adelaide news.
This one? Yes I kind of feel like this was a step backwards from the previous set in terms of presentation. But it was definitely a lot more brighter
Straying off topic a bit but I actually kind of liked this set and its various elements, bar the strange blue lake… it was unique and local… and they could change the patterns (which animated) on the screens behind the presenters which they did from time to time. They put the Australian flag on them one Australia Day too, from memory.
The Ten News in the middle was eventually removed when they changed the graphics package.
Also, those Adelaide updates above with Kelly Nestor were done from the Melbourne set which seemed to be the habit in the afternoons at the time. They occasionally used George and very occasionally Kelly and then Rebecca to read the Melbourne updates as well as Adelaide.
That bulletin presented from Melbourne is way better than the current product today.
When COVID becomes a thing of the past hopefully Jen and Quarters will be able to come to Adelaide and participate in some local events and connect with the viewers.
It also helped that the 2000-11ish Ten News Adelaide from Melbourne was still a separately presented bulletin, unlike the weird hybrid mess of a Melbourne/Adelaide product we’ve got now.
I’d argue that in all markets that the local stories are few and far between. They’re simply not covering stuff Nine is in Sydney at least. It use to be the best commercial bulletin and now it’s the worst in terms of the amount of local news covered.
They’ll have a long way to rebuild it if they ever do.
At least back in the 2000s they had on location weather and locally presented sport. The current in studio weather presentation just removes all connection to the city.
Found a clip from 1982, a young Ann Sanders (just arrived from 7 Perth) presenting with Tim Webster. I find 10’s news in the 80’s to be slightly unique.
Was this like the Ten News Update?
Yep… just a local afternoon new update. Similar to what they have now.
