Oh yes, the Finale. I forgot about that. Thanks. It now makes sense then to air them out quickly.

On Your Marks, Get Set, Go!

All New Australian Film The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race.

Premieres Wednesday 26 July At 7.30pm On 10 And 10 Play.

The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race , a quirky, charming story filmed in Sydney and the picturesque villages of the Southern Highlands, premieres on 10 and 10 Play, Wednesday 26 July at 7.30pm.

When Penny Anderson (Claire van der Boom) returns to her childhood home just in time for The Appleton Show and its ‘world famous’ potato race, she is outraged when she sees the flyer announcing that the men’s first prize pays out $2,000 and the winning woman’s prize is only $200! Determined to right this wrong, she unleashes a cultural war never-before-seen in sleepy Appleton - pitting family against family, sister against sister and potato racer against potato racer.

The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race was written by playwright Melanie Tait (The Vegemite Tales, A Broadcast Coup) based on her play of the same name which she wrote following her own experiences. Claire van der Boom (Blacklight, Palm Beach) leads the cast, with Katie Wall (Winter, Puberty Blues), Genevieve Lemon (Ticket to Paradise, The Power of The Dog), Tiriel Mora (The Castle, Smoke Between Trees), Robyn Nevin (Relic, The Eye of the Storm) and Olivia Stambouliah (Ambulance, The Walking Dead) also starring. The film is directed by Lynn Hegarty (Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries, A Place to Call Home), produced by Andrea Keir and Lisa Duff who are also executive producing with Perpetual Entertainment’s Greg Quail, and Paramount+ Australia’s Sophia Mogford.

Now is the time to be a couch potato. This spud-tacular television event, that will leave you laughing and inspired, is also streaming on Paramount+ from Thursday 27 July.

The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race is produced by Congaline Productions and EQ Media for Network 10. Major production investment from Screen Australia in association with Screen NSW and the NSW Regional Film Fund.

Who would have thought? A premiere made-for-streaming movie on Wednesday, and at 7.30pm.

It looks like Hunted will be shown on Sunday to Tuesday nights.

More Australian content coming through on 10.

It sees my his year they’ve had way more hours of Australian content than ever before. Very rare for them.

I know the terms are a bit ambiguous or interchangeable, but for the purposes of Australian TV nomenclature, I’d think this is more a ‘made-for-television’ (or ‘made-for-streaming’) local movie, as opposed to what we’ve always called/considered a ‘telemovie’ (anticipated usually high profile FTA TV event) such as Hawke or Inxs or Howzat or Molly (these include two-parters).

Not really. A two-parter has always been known as a mini-series.

A telemovie and a made for television movie have always been the same thing. I guess with some movies being made specifically for streaming services but also having a free to air television screening, the lines really are blurring. Also complicating things are many movies having a cinema release but appear on television or streaming service a couple of weeks later.

I do agree, a made-for-streaming movie is a better term, like those movies produced for AppleTV+ or Netflix.

It’s been a while that we have seen a Telemovie on FTA (with The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race). We’ve seen a few two-part miniseries in more recent years.

Although i agree that we’ve seen more and more “telemovies” appearing on the streaming sites, rather than at the cinema.

Does make a few awards ceremonies (AACTA’s and Logies) interesting in coming years with what’s considered a “movie” and what’s a “telemovie/ mini series/ stand-alone tv show” etc…

Looks…not great.

It looks alright to me. A bit of fun, like a cross between The Full Monty and Crackerjack.

It now appears that FBI is out, and a repeat of Location Location Location is in (source: EPG). With its relatively low numbers of Friday nights, 10 would be hoping that with a hopefully big number for the MasterChef Final, that people catch a glimpse of Location.

I don’t think the Masterchef finale will rate any higher than 650-700k, so not sure how much of an effect it will have.

Not the greatest strategy, if people want to watch they would’ve sampled the 7:30 Friday or 6:00 Saturday offering, then there’s always catch up too.

Now it just serves to piss off anyone who expected FBI as usual on Sunday night and further alienate loyal FTA viewers who already have a hard time chasing shows around a schedule.
