Ten Network - Programs and Schedules

This is where our insider enthusiasts will appreciate the background hahahaha

So it is indeed a repeat but 10 are highlighting because only episode 1 and 2 were played in prime time and now, unless you caught it in the morning, can now see episode 3 and 4.

So why screen it at 10am before end of year, if you were going to show the next 2 episodes back in the same slot?

Cost.

So the costs for December were very low, obviously just The Bachelors and lots of repeats. The budget for January is much higher with Gladiators and other new shows to screen. To balance the budget a bit, it was cost effective to show the new content in December and then have those two episodes cost less as repeats in January or they could have been even free repeats, depending on the contract.

Most would have found that explanation boring but it is a little interesting

This is honestly absurd - but I do appreciate the explanation.

I just thought I would clarify what is happening:

Thursday 18 January
7:30 Gladiators (ep 4 in season 5)

Friday 19 January
7:30 Gladiators (ep 5 in season 1)
8:50 The Graham Norton Show (ep 14 of 19 in season 31)

Sunday 21 January
7:30 Gladiators (ep 6 in season 1)

Monday 22 January
7:30 Gladiators (ep 7 in season 1)

Tuesday 23 January
7:30 Gladiators (ep 8 in season 1)

Wednesday 24 January
7:30 Gladiators (ep 9 in season 1)

Thursday 25 January
7:30 Gladiators (ep 10 in season 1)

Friday 26 January
7:30 Gladiators (ep 11 in season 1)

Notes:

  1. There are 12 episodes of Gladiators so the season final will air Sunday 28th
  2. As reported, Australian Survivor will air Monday 29th
  3. As reported The Dog House Australia will premiere Thursday 1 February
  4. The Dog Hospital with Graeme Hall premieres now after The Dog House on 1st February (which now makes more sense anyway)

Sorry some of this was accurately reported but I put the missing bits in and covered in 1 post

I miss the days where shows like Gladiators would air once a week. Watching for 70+ minutes 5-6 nights a week is a huge commitment: no wonder FTA is dying with this sort of scheduling.

The show has four episodes. If a new season of Gogglebox starts at the end of February (as in previous years), what night could The Dog Hospital be shown?

Saturday nights, where it should’ve been from the start.

The new morning line up on 10 full of repeats is a disaster:. At least air new episodes of branded cooking shows. Repeats of Dr Phil and Judge Judy are just bad. Those shows aren’t even in production anymore. Lazy lazy programming.

It’s a bit concerning that replaying Neighbours, B&B and Deal or No Deal will lead to decreased numbers through their evening time-slots.

Repeats galore for the morning slots for 10. Would probably rate even less than what Studio 10 was getting, which was low in itself.

Dr Phil moves to 11am. Farm to Fork is the only new cooking show in the schedule, to be airing at 3pm.

News now has three slots in the afternoons: Midday (one hour), Afternoons at 3:30pm (30 Minutes), and the flagship at 5pm (one hour).

I believe the Neighbours Morning repeat (last year) was rating well.

Yeah it’s not great.

Without wanting to stray into mock schedule territory too much, 10 should be offering counter programming against the other commercials.

Give mornings back to Kids for a few hours and program differently to Nickelodeon while utilising Paramount content. If they wanna spend a few extra dollars, top and tail programs with some locally produced prerecorded intros.

Then it’s just a slight reordering for daytime, new cooking show block airs in the mornings as an alternative before talk show leading into Midday, encore programming which usually does well, then entertainment before Afternoons which carries into their regular lineup.

4:30am CBS Mornings
6:00am Kids Programming Block
8:00am Neighbours (rpt)
8:30am Bold & Beautiful (rpt)
9:00am Cooking Show Block
11:00am The Talk
12:00pm Midday
1:00pm Primetime Encores
2:00pm Cooking Show filler if needed
2:30pm Deal or No Deal (rpt)
3:00pm Entertainment Tonight
3:30pm Afternoons
4:00pm Neighbours
4:30pm Bold & Beautiful

I’d start running news updates from about 8am, have someone in Sydney doing updates for all markets.

Could easily do them in the TOSS area and pretty inexpensive but carries news throughout the day and acts as promos for the 4 bulletins they’ll soon have.

Just my two cents on how it could be done relatively effectively and better.

Interesting that Dr Phil is moving. The current morning lineup mustn’t have been working.

@TV.Cynic How has Midday been rating the first few weeks of this year so far?

Agree. It would be interesting to get an update on The Midday News numbers without the Studio 10 leadin.
