TV Blackbox understands the new show will run for just 30 minutes, allowing 10 to bring its entire primetime schedule forward by half an hour — a strategic move that harks back to earlier success with 7.00pm reality formats like Big Brother (which returns to the network later this year) while also setting 10’s evening lineup apart from rival networks.
Sounds like there is a high chance that 10 will be moving it’s primetime shows forward by 30 minutes to 7pm - risky move IMO.
I like the 7News NSW Regional model. Split the news bulletins into local and national.
5pm 10 National News
5:30pm 10 Local News - hyper local. Only state news. Long form 4-5 local stories added. Local weather.
6:15pm Sports Tonight
6:30pm Behind the Lines or whatever it is.
7pm Deal or No Deal.
I don’t get what sort of audience flow they’re expecting here… they’re going from 5.00 news to 6.00 game show to 6.30 current affairs then 7.00 reality/entertainment? There is no natural flow between any of those. I know 6.00 current affairs has been tried and failed before but going from news to 6.00 current affairs, then say DOND or whatever game show at 6.30 leading into entertainment at 7 seems a better flow.
Yeah, I’m not sure we have the complete picture yet…
City based local bulletins at 4 to 4:30 pm could be interesting given presenters are normally there for local updates anyway. Cheap, lots of live crosses etc.
I still think there is potential for a game show that involves celebrities to add some comedy like Blankety Blanks or Celebrity Shares - still has public competing though.
Maybe a 10:30am bulletin is more probable. Im surprised no one has said Neighbour might return to prime time lol. But seriously i havent seen much logic in 10’s strategies for some time
They need to stop the bleed to streaming that probably affects their target market more than 7 and 9.
If you can delay punters going to Netflix or wherever by moving primetime up, it may just work.
I think 10 has kept their cards really close to their chest here, given the massive holes in their schedule. I think 10 are all in here, but hey, if it works then who knows. I’m waiting before judging given the ramifications here.
I don’t think 10 have holes in their schedule outside Friday / Saturday. In fact, if anything with shows like Have You Been Paying Attention, The Cheap Seats, Gogglebox, Inspired, etc all filling post 8.30 slots, that means they produce more Australian content than 7 and 9 whom generally have American imports in those slots (i.e 911 / Doc, The Grand Tour, etc). They also have a late night news service and then plenty of original US content through Paramount. They have their tentpoles like MasterChef, Australian Survivor, I’m a Celeb, Big Brother, etc and then make shows like Dogs Behaving Very Badly, Taskmaster, Airport 24/7, Talking Bout Your Gen, Ghosts Australia and then use their Paramount+ content for stuff like NCIS: Sydney, Tulsa King, Fake.
I am not suggesting they couldn’t do better, but they are producing the same, if not more content than 9 and 7. It probably looks like more on 7 as they have AFL on 2 nights plus their AFL panel shows and 9 has NRL and their panel shows but the actual variety output is fairly solid. Just my opinion.
Agreed, it seems to be the “in thing” to criticise 10 led by cheer leaders Blackbox, News Corp, the Daily Fail and various posters on here. Like all the Australian linear channels 10 have many faults but are no worse than 7 and 9. Fridays and Saturdays on 10 have been bad for some time and they have too many repeats but IMO their reality and “tent pole” shows are superior to 7 and 9. I was forced to watch the 1% crap on 7+ tonight as my partner wanted to see it and it was terrible. If it was on 10 the knives would be sharpening long ago.
10’s schedule Sunday to Thursday is fairly good. Enough content at 7.30pm with reality shows (of MasterChef, Survivor, I’m a Celeb etc). After that, we have HYBPA, The Cheap Seats, Task Master, Gogglebox, Dog House etc.
Fridays is still a basket case. Saturdays ratings have slightly improved in recent weeks. We have the 5pm News going to 6.30pm and is rating okay. And at 7.30pm, Love It or List It Aus usually outranks Nine’s Holiday Home Makeover. But the rest of its schedule is not the greatest.
It will be interesting to see what 10 does on Friday night’s at 6.30pm, and Sundays at 6pm. Also the 11pm slot, where The Project repeats usually air. Do we see the Late News extend to 45 and have a longer sports segment there? Does The Late Show with Stephen Colbert start early, at 11pm?
