10 had a good thing going with The Living Room, but they killed it. Then they tried to bring it back in-house and murdered it even more. People didn’t like the change and it not being consistently on. 10 meddled to save costs and it cost them another very on brand show for the network.
The point here is to do something different, not try to poorly emulate what might be working on the other networks. They could try a procedurals block, imported dramas, a buzzy quiz show, some of their local ob-docs they should try first run on a Friday night too.
But lifestyle is working for Saturdays, leave it there.
I wonder how some sort of sketch comedy show might work? Alternative viewing needs to be light, even if the 7:30 program is imported, it could be encored on a secondary channel.
One example of an international show is the Canadian comedy This Hour Has 22 Minutes (often shortened to 22 Minutes), although not necessarily the best example of a potential 7:30pm product, i have attached a description of the program below
people still like those shows. Also they are stand-alone episodes not continuing dramas, very easy to casually watch those shows. Not the same with an ongoing drama.
Also, who has been interested in Dallas since the mid 1980s?
I’m sorry, but i recall the Dallas held the 9:30pm slot on Ten in Sydney until 1991, so there must have been more than a few eyeballs watching. It also had various stints mid afternoons on Ten.
Given it hasnt been on FTA since it ended, it hasn’t had the ability to see if there is interest in it. Admittedly there was the attempt to revive it, but with most of the original cast now deceased, a remake was never going to work.
Remind me how long ago were shows like Jake And The Fatman and Matlock and other shows that the other FTAs aired in recent years - The A Team, Knight Rider, TJ Hooker and Murder She Wrote?
If ten can get traitors and BB to fire then they have a pretty solid year round reality slate now with some the of the biggest brands in the world, along with IAC, survivor, masterchef and TAR.
If only they could get their early evenings fixed.
Why on earth with 4 free to air channels would 10 air programs to compete against itself.
2 FBI franchises head to head on 10 and Bold,
2 sitcoms on Comedy and Nick.
No variety and just cannibalising themselves, may as well just simulcast
Looks like 10 has released almost all available eps of Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service on streaming ahead of tonight’s premiere, it’s being promoted on the carousel currently.
Currently includes up to ep7 which aired the other week in the states, there are 11 eps in this season I believe.
