Ten (Mildura Digital Television)

But it will take away eyeballs from Seven and WIN.

The only way I think it would be an issue if people in Mildura watched all stations through VAST as opposed to just 10

I can imagine that streaming device sales will rise In Mildura If they haven’t already.

Has the potential to divert more viewers away from all terrestrial channels to streaming. That could lead to more viewers watching the national BVOD streams rather than the local broadcast potentially decreasing the viability of the remaining channels.

Same with the VAST solution if they don’t lock out the other networks.

If it does, too bad how sad

I agree. Seven and WIN pay the price with losing viewers to VAST or streaming.

In reality, there were ways that the 10 feed could have generated more revenue such as trying to secure additional infomercials for it just Mildura, but also Tasmania, Western Australia as well as Griffith/MIA, South Australia as well as northern NSW feeds on secondary channels such as 10Peach instead of umpteen repeats of the same comedies. It would be simple to add 1 hour weekday mornings from say 10am til 11am and again 3pm til 4pm weekdays

Yep, absolutely. Informercials as you say could have offset some of the losses.

Sharing spectrum with WIN would have completely eliminated transmission costs alone. WIN has the space. They also have existing arrangements with 10 they could have leveraged to reduce other costs like moving playout to 10 for example. Burden 10 with something if they want to keep regional viewers watching their channels.

Just under 1 hour to go till Mildura becomes the first region since 2013 to not have access to all five television networks on terrestrial television.

I can guarantee this would never happen in the Illawarra (Wollongong area) even if it were under the same arrangements as Mildura

One day, it will happen even in Sydney and Melbourne. Not soon, but likely by when Aussie TV turns 100 (2056), free to air tv will be a thing of the past.

FTA delivered TV via TV towers will be well gone by 2056. Whoever is left will be streaming via 7G, 8G or 9G.

Not convinced it will go that far, but I dare say that the broadcasters will have no more than 2 channels each (with most having a similar schedule to 9Gem about 18 months ago) where the second channel airing infomercials around half of the day on the commercial stations and the ABC and SBS channels offering News and documentaries on one, 2 channels of general entertainment and one indigenous channel

Wait. Wasn’t MDV more successful during the Nine-era due to Nine naturally having more viewers than Ten?

Apparently it still made a lost, and the licence was deemed worthless by Prime.

But is Seven or Win the leading cause of the shut down?
