oh yeah, I know that, but still interesting none the less.
Take out the media targeted sites from a Google News Search, it hasnât had much coverage at all
The Project running a report. Seems a little late now.
Ten, who could just buy MDT to solve this, calling on the Government to do something. Ten have all the cards if they want Ten on air in Mildura.
I suppose it will be a story thatâs more relevant once it actually happens - I think a lot of people are used to last minute extensions and bailouts coming, so if they saw the ads they probably donât think too much of it.
Big advertisement on the front page of yesterdayâs Sunraysia Daily.
Also, sad to see their TV guides listings shrink from tomorrow.
Kind of ironic that the last thing to air on MDT tonight could be that Project segment about its closure.
Why would Ten buy a TV station that has quite literally haemorrhaged money for its entire existence?
Ten wouldnât buy it - but they frame the closure as something WIN/Seven have done to poor helpless Ten and the Mildura viewers; and asking for the Government to fix it - while not acknowledging that they have options theyâve chosen for commercial reasons to not attempt.
Exactly. 10 could also gift an affiliation deal to WIN to carry their channels on WINâs spectrum. WIN would be all ears if they had free use of the ad slots.
WIN and Seven would probably do everything they can to stop 10 buying the licence, since the market apparently canât sustain three commercial stations.
Wonder if it was deliberately timed?
While it makes sense to remove 10 from the TV Guide because its not on terrestrial tv, surely they could keep it in the guide with a reference to 10play.com.au rather than a channel number?
If that really was the case, theyâd be running noodle updates right along the eastern seaboard.
I donât think itâs far off that happening to be honest. Airing stories from other areas of the state when itâs supposed to be local News. That was like All Australian News airing in Northern NSW prior to the switch back to Nine in 2021. None of the stories had relevance to northern NSW
Legally nothing stopping them if they were to go that way as long as they maintain minimum local content quota points.
This goes exactly to my argument that all TV1 LAPs should be abolished and 7,9,10 were given national licences same as ABC and SBS. The economies of scale with a national reach would be more of a safeguard of services being maintained nationally instead of relying on the hodge podge of failing regional TV businesses as is the case at present.
WIN wouldnât care. That would cost money WIN does not have.
Could they?
But also Iâm not sure Ten has any interest in setting up a precedent for buying up these loss-making licences, because we can easily imagine Mildura wonât be the only one to lose a third commercial channel.
The redundancies at Seven and Nine is probably the best example as to why the metro stations will try to avoid setting up national networks.
Unless something changes, we are likely to end up with only 2 to 3 television stations in regional Australia, with the only locations that may be lucky to have 4 being Newcastle, Wollongong, Canberra and Townsville.
I think that ACMA need to look at markets where there are duplicate licences such as Central Coast NSW and the Gold Coast because this is where some of the national advertising dollars could be saved which may give the opportunity to divert expenditure of these companies to regional areas.
The 10 Network could buy the Mildura licence but they have no Interest In doing so do there American owners want to Invest In such a small licence area where the joint venture didnât make a profit.
Theyâd care if the discounts extended to their other 10 affiliations.
