Tech Talk

might incentivize them to spend on the network as the cost to pay compo is more than the cost of upkeep

Either way, costs wiil get passed on to the consumer. Will be interesting to see if this happens and if cuistomers are prepared to stay/pay.

The Chrome browser on my Google Pixel 6 phone was updated the other day. I notice that the translate button now appears on top of the browser next to the address bar, which allows me to translate any web page to a foreign language.

There was an interesting interview with a tech scientist on ABC News Radio this morning (can’t recall his name). They were discussing energy and water usage by data centres for AI etc. Water usage is one thing that I hadn’t really considered/thought about in relation to AI/data servers.

He said that if you ask ChatGPT for instance to write a 100 word email, that consumes about 500 ml of water in the process. I had no idea it was that much. The water is used to help keep the data centres cool.

I have seen news reports in the past in which desktop computers are placed in containers filled with water to keep them cool. At that time I thought it was impossible because water would have soaked into the components, destroying the computer.

A few ways that water can be used to cool electronics.

What is PC water cooling and how does it work? | Crucial.com.

But of course we all know what happens when you drive a car into floodwaters - it becomes a write off.

More than likely its mineral oil (which isn’t conductive)

My home gmaing machine has whats called an AIO (all In One) liquid cooler on the CPU - its a sealed system with water, glycol and addiitives to cool the CPU and bring it to fans rather than using fans and air cooling

This probably isn’t the right thread so if someone could move it or advise me where to post it i would appreciate it!

Now, i own an Android TV box that is locked down by a particular company’s software. Now i won’t name this company but it’s very foxy

I no longer have an account with this company but i still would like to use it with Binge which is unable to be downloaded onto the box.

I’ve looked into reinstalling Android TV OS onto the box but that’s not possible. I would like to install WebOS or something similar but i’m unsure if that’s even possible.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what i could do?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

honestly - its more hassle than its worth. Buy a Hubbl puck and use that

Have you had any issues with it? I have heard a lot of people complain about hubbl but whether a lot the complaints are way over the top I’m not sure.

No i’m one of the lucky ones. The only issue i’ve had is when the major outage happened.

Sometimes it doesn’t load the EPG data or current time though…

Yeah, this seems to be a well-known issue but other than that a lot of the other issues that get thrown around seem over exaggerated.

I had issues at the beginning with billing and some settings pages not working but apart from that it’s been fine. I actually really do like it for the simplicity of things and the integration of the Kayo, Binge and Flash channels into the guide so I can see what is on with those live channels easily. I don’t know of any device that does that.

I bought and set up another 2 last week, one for my old neighbour who has had to retire his Telstra TV and then found out he couldn’t get Kayo on the Fetch and one for my parents so I can can my Fetch subscription. Both of them have been able to pick them up and use them easily which is great.

I had a tech purchase with an unexpected twist this morning.

Had been on the lookout for a Samsung S24 phone on special, there was a price drop a few days ago, down from $1,387 to $1,137, so I set off to the local Officeworks store as I still had a $300 gift card for that.

It is located next to a Good Guys, so I decided to pop in there and have a quick look. Found to my amazement that they had a 12.4 inch Samsung Tab S9+ on special, $510 off! (down from $1,699 to $1,187) brand new still in the box. I think their screens are better than the iPad Pros, so I couldn’t say no to that. This is an good upgrade from a 10.6 inch Tab S6, released back in 2015.

And I still have the $300 gift card, so will just wait until the S24 is on special again, no doubt it will be in the lead up to Christmas and with the S25 to be unveiled early in the new year.
