Shame 4BC can’t rival ACE, would be nice to have some more classic hits stations in Brissie
Maybe thats what 4BC Breakfast needs to do. Cut the talk and be less serious. Just have a DJ type playing classic hits with news and traffic. Bring in the interviews and talkback after 9am.
So back to the shit show that was Laurel, Gary and Mark? That was awful.
What’s with the classic hits suggestions being made? They have 4BH for that.

I would probably have a format whereby breakfast is more music like SmoothFM with a similar format have a talk focused morning and music at other timed so like a 2GN format when they took Hadley for the morning show and had music at other times.. Brisbane is missing a SmoothFM type station and I would be formatting 4BC similarly but ultimately if I could convert the station to FM I would as talk on 4BC has never rated number one in the market and never will with a talk format in the last 20 or more years of trying

Too many years as the TAB contractor under Alberts - TAB contract was easy money but at a cost to the long term viability of the station. More recently yet again 9 TV execs have shown radio is not just TV without pictures - radio is a completely different skill set. It will be interesting to see how the radio at SCM fares now the TV types appear to be calling the shots.
Tab contract ended probably 20 years ago it would not have much of an impact now. If they want to be number one that won’t happen with a talk format in Brisbane. If they insist on having a talk format then a 2GN type format is their only real option.

Tony Tardio’s legal stoush with 3AW has been settled.
The legendary newsreader took to social media last night (Thursday), saying “We have peace in our time. After much argy bargy, Tardio v 3AW is resolved. Both parties are pleased with the outcome. Onwards and upwards.”

The Australian reports that past and present staff at 4BC have hit out at incessant meddling and flip-flop programming decisions by Sydney-based management, for the station’s ratings woes.

well i’m not surprised. ive listened to 4bc and the shows from Sydney and unless they are ranting against the labor party Brisbane and Queensland issues barely got a mention - if they did it was a token story. why would i want to hear about the new south wales government when i live hours from the border?

That’s the problem with networking from one market to another, across TV and radio. What’s relevant for one is not relevant for the others.

I had imagined he might’ve sought his position back, but clearly a payout will suffice, I mean he would be retirement age. Good to see that’s over, for now.

Mark Allen filled in for Ross Stevenson on 3AW breakfast today.
That’s twice in the last week. Mark Allen came in mid-show about 6:50am one morning because Ross’s voice was failing.

I’m having a think to myself and was wondering…
How long before Tapt puts national evenings and overnights on 2GB/3AW/4BC? Do they not renew John Stanley and Denis Walter’s contracts and “retire them”? Do they get of Phil O’Neil or Tony McManus? Can they piss off Money News and sack James Willis and extend evenings to 7pm or extend Sports Today to 8pm? Am I over thinking things?

Wouldn’t it make more sense for Tapt to first identify the underperforming timeslots across the network, then focus on reshaping each one so it better complements the overall format of its respective station?
Looking at 3AW specifically, I’d start with Afternoons and Drive. Both feel like the biggest opportunities for improvement. I’d be looking for presenters who can naturally maintain the station’s momentum throughout the day—someone in Afternoons who can effortlessly bridge lighter, more lifestyle-focused content into the more news-driven tone of Drive, and a Drive host who can carry that transition seamlessly into the evening.

I was thinking of where Tapt could save money. As they will want to do as the months and years roll on. Why have state specific shows outside of breakfast, mornings, afternoons, drive and footy season when you can have 1 show? Replace the old fogeys on big pay packets and have younger (subjectively speaking) presenters on smaller pay packets.
They shouldn’t do it, but I can see them doing it.
Nights on AW blows the competition out of the water. I wouldn’t really mess with what you have as a good thing. Aw listeners aren’t fond of networked programming .
