Trust me, I wanted to get out of Sydney. The Department mistook my transfer application of “Western NSW” for “Western Sydney”. The corporate arm of the DoE is run by nufties.
The problem is, I am a specialist teacher. And that relies on demand. And retraining is not done at a drop of a hat unless you’re willing to retrain in certain areas, with your bosses blessings. And thats not easy as there is an opportunity that theyd loae a staff member they might like.
The Minns government is trying to get a lot of teachers on temp contracts as permanent - if you have been a temp at the same school for several years, you should be offered a permanent position.
I’m more than likely going to have the codes/qualifications for two specialist areas - TAS (mainly computing technology, which NESA have f**ked up massively - but would like to expand into engineering, electronics and maybe woodwork) and soon inclusive education (i.e. the support unit). Two areas that they need more teachers in.
I’m not kidding. I told them, I meant Western NSW, not Western Sydney. Unfortuantely, it was at the point where I had to accept the transfer or lose my job altogether.
Yes, on Nine News Sydney tonight it was more about how Sydney “has rocketed back up the lisf” but Melbourne didn’t get much of a mention …. I didn’t realise they had dropped down as they have been highly placed before, or why.
I am in Vienna right now, it is an amazing city. Well deserved #1 most liveable. It has great history and culture as well as all the modern amenities. The people are friendly, the streets feel safe and have a great community vibe. everything is clean, the public transport is very extensive and reliable. Most impressively; It’s more affordable than many other European capitals.
Makes Melbourne and Sydney seem like total dumps. The people that make those lists should be embarrassed that they considered them in the same league.
The digitization of public transport services has come a long way in Europe just since the pandemic. Australia is way behind, it’s going to feel like going back into the dark ages.
