Sydney vs Melbourne rivalry

Please tell me that you’re not seriously arguing that Sydney is a better city than Melbourne just because of the Olympics (an event of that magnitude is something I actually think Sydney would spectacularly fail in successfully pulling off these days, but I digress) we held over 16 years ago now…

OK, As someone who has spent time in both & has gone back Bush “Where I Belong BTW” If I had to live in a City it would be NEITHER…I’d live in BRISBANE, Cheapest to live in out of all the cities in OZ, Fuel is Cheaper, Food is Cheaper, Rent & House prices are half the price of either Sydney or Melbourne. but if you want me to pick out of the two I’d pick Sydney…It’s Bigger, it’s the financial capital of Australia Plus Sydney is our postcard to the world & has much better beaches than Melbourne…

No not Melbourne, I’m just quoting the IOC President at the time from the Closing Ceremony

Everything that you just said is laughable

What you just said was laughable.

Don’t they say that at every closing ceremony?

Nope. Never been said since.

Your so cool

Granted, but it’s Brisbane

(Spot the southener in the room!)

Every single one except 1956 from memory

Right, Time to pull the Gloves Off & give the Southern Bear a good ol’ poke with a blunt stick

Music History, Sydney has the Famous Albert Productions & EMI’s Studio 301, The 2 studio’s where this countries greatest music was recorded.

The Arts, Sydney has Tropfest, NIDA, AFTRS & The Fox Studio complex at Moore Park.

Landmarks, Sydney has the World Famous Harbor Bridge & Opera House.

Beaches, There’s a string of great beaches stretching all the way from Palm Beach to Cronulla including 2 Australian Icons in Manly & Bondi Beach.

That will do for now, Now to wait for the Mexican’s to respond

This is supposed to be “the arts”?

Why do you think being called Mexican would be offensive? What’s wrong with Mexico?

You. I like you.

All we need to do now is bring back trams. Hell, there are still tracks lying around from when we used to have them in the 60s!

Only a short drive to the Sunshine Coast.

That being said, if anyone overseas asks where in Australia to visit first, I recommend Melbourne for the culture first and then the Sunshine Coast for the quintessential Australian beach experience. The GC is too crowded and mainstream and Sydney can be done and dusted by any tourist in two days. After that maybe Byron Bay, I think northern NSW is an underrated destination.

Only on that very rare occasion when the Bruce doesn’t have an accident on it lol

Same can be said for the GC with the Pacific. Still, at least the SC drive is somewhat relaxing with the pine plantations.

As a Sydneysider who lived in Sydney for 30 years, and has been in Melbourne for the last 7…
Holy shit melbourne people the biggest pack of whingers on the planet.

Every day will start with how hot / cold they think it is - and everyone must agree with them or they are weird…

I have a fan on me going through winter because I find it too hot… but I don’t jump around like a dick complaining every 5 seconds about it…

and don’t get started on the useless drivers down here…

this place made me put both a forward and rear facing dash cam in my car…

I had an argument with my mother in law on the weekend - where I said -

  1. The yellow light mean prepare to stop, not barrel through the intersection.
  2. If at any point you are in the intersection and the light has turned red, you have run the red light
  3. pilling your cars in the intersection just because you are turning is fucking dangerous…

I can’t wait to go back to Sydney…

The people I know in Melbourne are definitely not like that.

Sydney drivers aren’t that much better

Well off you go then

From my observations, many (not all, of course) Sydneysiders generally think it’s too hot/cold if the temperature is above or below that 20-25 degrees threshold.
