Some of Aldi’s stuff is fantastic - you just have to work out which items they are.

Did anyone see Coles’ latest Down Down ad sung to the tune of That’s Amore? That’s worse than the ads featuring Status Quo.

It’s just as bad as this one:

Hard to believe it’s been five years since that abysmal commercial. I even remember there being a story on ACA or TT about the viewer outrage at the time! :stuck_out_tongue:

IMO the only valid parody of That’s Amore is the 12th Man’s That’s Parore

Coles Canberra Civic has opened today since undertaking a month long renovation after it took over Supabarn. Have to say, it looks amazing.

Kaleen and Wanniassa look alright, but kinda crowded. The new Supabarn at Casey is awesome.

The first four Aldi stores opened today in Perth. A few articles about the opening.

Aldi is full of absolute shit. These aren’t German products - they’re just rip offs of other products. 5 cents cheaper than the originals. Big deal.

I can’t believe I’ve been hearing about this crap for 15 years from the east coast.

Since hearing about it, I’ve really just taken Aldi as a budget supermarket stocked with Aldi’s own generic brands similar to Home Brand/Essentials, Coles Smart Buy, Black & Gold and so forth, only the better kind, as well as the occasional odd buy. (someone bought a TV from there!) It’s good that most of the products are Australian Made since we don’t know half the time where some supermarket products are manufactured.

In my opinion, Aldi is really for customers who don’t care about the fancy brands, and just want to buy what will do for them. Even though most of their products are 90% their labels, It’s nice that they still do stock the familiar brands we all know like Vegemite as a example.

Going to check out the Mirrabooka store tommorow and see how it is.

But they’re hardly cheaper than the fancy brands anyway.

Yeah exactly, and fine - so it’s like a Red Dot or Reject Shop or Thingz. It is nothing like a substitute for Coles or Woolworths. I actually can’t believe media on the east coast have been blabbering about this store for 15 years and no one has been critical of the rip-off crap they sell.

You obviously having been paying attention. They have constantly been saying how Aldi is damaging branded products and how Coles & Woolworths is copying them with their home brands and causing further damage.

Never heard that once. Might be Sydney or Melbourne specific papers saying that.

Well, you did say the east coast media.

But the media here has been critical.

East coast media received in Perth, obviously.

And I totally reject your point - the overwhelming impression for more than a decade has been that Aldi is a miracle store.

That you saw an article or two in 15 years that expresses a slightly different viewpoint means nothing - it’s like pointing to a slightly pro-Labor article in the Daily Tele and then telling me that no, the Daily Tele does not blabber on about how rubbish Labor is.

And the irony here being that it’s just as likely you saw two or three pieces of miracle news coverage and construed it as representing the attitude of the media as a whole.

The basket comparison here has Aldi a fair bit cheaper:

To me, that’s the reason they are successful. It isn’t an accident that Aldi establish the majority of their stores in low income areas where every dollar counts to people on low incomes. Some of Aldi’s products may only be marginally cheaper than the equivalents at Woolies and Coles but those savings add up.

I usually stick with the big two chains because Aldi doesn’t carry all of the products I want to purchase and I can afford to spend a few dollars more. I don’t find that much difference in the quality of most of the products I’ve tried from Aldi.

The best thing about having an Aldi store open in your area is the immediate effect of seeing the prices at Woolies or Coles drop. Welcome the competition.

Yucky attitude.

I always try to buy from independent butchers and greengrocers.
