Supermarkets and Retail

Did they have actual store fronts or was it all online?

Online only. Not the only outlet that has suffered large revenue slides. Catch another one.

Amazon is a huge disruptor to many online players at the moment.

In terms of Toys, well the only reason you would really buy from Toy R Us would be price, but they have no ability to be competitive as they have no buying power. To be somewhat competitive they would need revenue to be in the hundreds of millions. Many other retailers now have loyalty programs tied to any purchase be it onepass, flybuys or EDR. I fail to see how they could position themselves in the market with all those competitive forces around them.

Guessing this also impacts Hobby Warehouse…

Appears so. I had no idea they had Riot within the group, also had no idea they closed all the stores a while back. Didn’t even notice. The Baby category is another tough spot to trade in at the moment, Baby Bunting issued some grim results last year and is barely profitable.

Andrews and Clubb have also taken control of Babies ‘R’ Us, Hobby Warehouse and Riot, which are owned by Toys ‘R’ Us.

Amazon Australia removes machetes after landmark Victoria ban

Amazon has removed the sale of all machetes from its online Australian marketplace after a landmark ban in Victoria.

The Victorian government announced a statewide ban on the sale of machetes following a violent brawl at the Northland shopping centre.

The Australian-first ban will come into effect from September 1, and comes amid mounting calls for the Labor government to crackdown on youth crime.

Despite the ban, Amazon Australia was reportedly still selling the deadly weapon earlier this month; in a statement this week, the retailer said that had come to an end.

A spokesperson for the retail giant confirmed machetes were no longer for sale across all of Amazon Australia, not just in Victoria, following the state government’s decision.

Google searches for machetes on Amazon continued to retrieve results on Sunday, but the link took buyers to a web page stating the address was “not functioning”.

Sunday Herald Sun says Amazon is the largest of the 27 online retailers to have also stopped the sale of machetes following a blitz by Consumer Affairs Victoria.

Michael Hill, MyHouse, and Hairhouse Online have each paid a $19,800 infringement notice after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) found their advertising misrepresented the scope of their sales.

The supplier to independent supermarkets such as IGA and Foodland also owns Independent Hardware Group — which includes Mitre 10 and Home Hardware — and Total Tools.

On Tuesday, Metcash announced it would merger the two divisions to create the Total Tools and Hardware Group.

Independent Hardware Group chief executive Scott Marshall will lead the new combined group while Total Tools boss Richard Murray heads for the exit.

To the deadshits who rearrange the broken eggs out of the cartons in the supermarket to ensure they have a full dozen of eggs - fucking stop it.

I did my grocery shopping today, and the only eggs left were, no joke, cartons full of cracked eggs.

I think egg suppliers and the supermarkets need to start creating deadshit-proof cartons and/or lock eggs away.

Absolutely disgusting.

Do you expect people to buy cartons of eggs with cracked ones in them? This isnt a consumer issue.

I’ve certainly put back cartons with broken eggs before, but never once thought to swap eggs between cartons. How dero.

Yes.

They are riffling through the cartons, multiple cartons, and swapping eggs out.

That’s not only a consumer issue, it’s a fucking health issue.

How is it any different to customers touching fruit and veg? I personally don’t eat the shell of an egg. :man_shrugging:

Not If you’re sticking your dirty hands into the cartons and physically swapping the eggs in and out of the cartons.

If youre going to open the carton to check, fine. Leave the broken egg in there.

I dont give a shit how mucn you’re paying for the eggs. So what if you’re paying a lot for eggs and you get a broken egg. Stop being a bunch of fucking derros.

This is a ridiculous viewpoint. Do you expect the supermarket to throw out a whole dozen when one egg is broken? Do you expect customers to buy the cracked or broken eggs?

I almost always see cartons with broken eggs discarded to the side.

If I open a carton and there’s one egg cracked, I will happily swap it over with one in the discarded carton. I’m not going to take a cracked egg home. It could have been sitting there for days and there would be bacteria in that.

With the egg shortage, there have been a couple of times where I’ve swapped a few eggs in the carton with some from a couple of discarded cartons just to be able to buy a full dozen.

Then the eggs need to be fixed by the supermarket, not bloody disgusting derros wtih uneashed hands.

You shouldn’t be allowed to screw around with eggs loke that. Theyre making enough money and taking us for a ride, at least make it safe.

Stop sucking eggs and you’ll be right.

don’t worry about the poor schmuck who ends up with that carton/egg, then?

Simple (??) solution, backyard chickens… although even their eggs can be subject to cracks.

The produce section must terrify you then.
