Capalaba has Woolworths on either side of Redland Bay Road - one in Capalaba Park and one in Capalaba Central shopping centres.
There used to be two Coles as well but one closed.

I could be wrong but wasnāt one of these originally a Bilo?
If it is New Zealand which from the picture looks like it, one would have been a Countdown and one would have been a Foodtown prior to the rebrand to Countdown which since has been rebranded to Woolworths.
Some Sydney suburbs have two supermarkets of the same brand within the same suburb but maybe not that close.
Hurstville has two Coles supermarkets. One in Westfield and one in Hurstville Central above the railway station. They also have two Woolworths. One in Westfield and one under a new apartment block.
Miranda has two Coles supermarkets. One in Westfield and one in Miranda Mall, in a nearby street.
Bathurst has two full-sized Woolworths supermarkets across the road from each other. Zoom in and you can see a Woolies sign on the white building to the left and one on the right:
Itās almost like a lot of this is designed to lock out competitorsā¦
Please donāt. Kmart needs competition.
Yes, but sadly Woolworths shareholders canāt have this around their necks any longer.
I think if they didnāt try and copy Kmart in terms of advertising Big W could be successful but with current management that isnāt going to happen. I like the fact that Big W doesnāt just have their own branded stuff which is their advantage and their range is generally more extensive and of more quality than Kmart. My local Big W is in a suburb I feel quite uncomfortable going to unfortunately so I only go there occasionally in store. I also buy online as well but they do the same as Kmart and Target in that if you order multiple items it takes days and usually comes in multiple deliveries how that can be cost effective is beyond me.
Well Chocolate has jumped again.
Cadbury blocks now $8, Lindt $8.50
Woolies need to advertise Big W as a point of difference to KMart and to Target. KMart is The Reject Shop on steroids, with quite shitty items. Not that Big W is much better but at least some name branfds are in there.
Also, fuck Woolworths for getting rid of the 10% Everyday Extra discount at Big W,
Thatās a big jump. A 14.3% increase. Not that I would ever pay that. As it will always be on special somewhere. Needless to say though that the price on special will go up from $3.50 to $4.00. And you think, oh well, thatās only a 50 cent increase so thatās not so bad. But itās still the same rise of 14.3%.
It was only last month that Aldi 200g blocks went up from $4 to 4.50.
Time to look for an alternative methinks. Funnily enough, the price of fruit and vege seems to be coming down.
To be fair in regard to chocolate prices at the start of 2023 a tonne of cocoa cost $US2000.
Today a tonne would set you back $US8700.
As the crops recover, the prices should come down again. Iāve stopped buying chocolate and have replaced it with non-chocolate biscuits. I miss my chocolate.
Man, thatās unfair to the Reject Shop!
This ^^ If people actually went to the Reject Shop they would see that they do actually have a lot of good stuff.
Big W at North Albury is re organising there health and beauty into the one area and nearly enclosing it to stop profit loss. But unlike renewals itās being done out of necessity. some new fixtures but the rest is old. So it looks pretty ordinary. North Albury probably wonāt get a renewal .
I like a nice Kobe steak, and nice eye fillet⦠if Iām going out for a nice meal thatās what Iāll eat⦠but Iām currently on a bit of a high-protein fitness kick at the gym. And normally I just go for bulk rump steak.
Many years ago my personal trainer encouraged me to go to Aldi (Iād never shopped there before) and get rump steak for $10 a kg. This was back when other supermarkets were like $16-17 a kg.
So in times like these when Iām eating steak everyday I just normally just grab shitloads of rump. But a couple of weeks ago at Aldi I noticed āShoulder steakā. It comes in those vacuum sealed ābagsā and is $16.99 a kilo.
I normally wouldnāt buy this sort of meat to have as a steak (though back when I was a cash-strapped student I used to sometimes buy those ākidney steaksā from Coles, but they were tiny and stringy.
Kudos to Aldi though. Their shoulder steak is great. Throw it on a hot heat, seers neatly, easy to eat. Cuts easily. Tastes superb.
Look Iām a Kiwi so I didnāt grow up eating a lot of steak unlike most Aussies, so maybe Iām misguided on this⦠but as someone who wants to eat decent quality steak everyday, this is great.
17 bucks a kilo. Thank you Aldi.
I prefer the Reject Shop to Kmart actually. I often get stuff like my noodles, soap and deodorant from there. Itās these bloody influencers who canāt be arsed to take on a more decent and honourable line of work that make Kmart look better than it really is.
Will miss the Reject Shop name when they all become Dollarama.
