I gave up smoking eight years ago and these anti-smoking measures do work. They don’t have an immediate effect but over time you start to really question your habit.
I finally gave up smoking when one of my friends who had smoked for two decades told me she no longer craved cigarettes. I thought that when you stopped smoking you just craved them forever. After two years of no nicotine my body no longer felt cravings, even mild cravings were gone. That was my Freedom Day.
Yahoo Australia has been given a sneak peek of Costco’s brand new warehouse at Ardeer in Melbourne’s west, which opens at 9am Wednesday. The petrol station at the same location opened in early March.
The ill-fated St Collins Lane is set for a solid, if dull, new name when it opens in October after a $50 million revamp – Collins Arcade.
On the first floor, Priceline Pharmacy has signed up for a 700 sq m shop and will be joined by a pathology clinic operated by ASX-listed Healius Group. German cosmetics retailer Kryolan and wellness and beauty services XtraClubs and Yuki House are also believed to be signing up for space.
Back on the ground floor, clothing retailers MJ Bale and SABA have taken 120 sq m and 150 sq m boutiques on long leases and will join existing flagship tenants TAG Heuer, Swatch and Birkenstock, who have bravely traded on through the revamp and closure.
Market sources suggest other deals in the wings include a new flagship store for adventure gear retailer Kathmandu.
Meanwhile, Waterman Workspaces has taken 2000 sq m on level two and Kingpin bowling has a ten-year lease on the basement.
Visited Forest Hill Chase today, looks like it’s following the trend of Brandon Park - many shop areas boarded up (and not just the revamping of the food zone). The shops inside (Target, Rebel Sport, Toy World etc) have seen better days.
First visit in over a year and doubt I’ll make a return trip any time soon. Recently lost JB Hifi there as well ?
Target didn’t look too crash hot, Rebel Sport at least still looked modern… but didn’t carry a lot of stock. QBD Book store was a nice visit though.
I have rarely visited the top level of Forest Hill Chase so I didn’t realise JB Hi-Fi had shut the store. It is no big loss since there is another one nearby at HomeHQ in Nunawading.
IIRC Vibe took over some Caltex (Chevron) locations in WA and became the franchise holder of those locations, thus those locations had their retail shop rebranded from Starmart (Chevron corporate-owned retail brand) to Vibe (powered by Caltex/Chevron fuel).
WA is quite generous with its convenience offerings. OTR, X Convenience, NightOwl and 7 Eleven all operate in the state. Local players Vibe and Atlas are starting to emerge.
Coles has decided to extend its 10-day promotion planning cycle to a longer and detailed 12-week cycle.
“This is a great example of finding industry-led solutions to supply chain challenges as our suppliers have told us that the new 12-week plan provides them with more certainty on volumes and an ability to better forecast demand,” a Coles spokesperson told Yahoo Finance.
Cost Control is going to be key in the retail space for those wishing to survive. Some have inflated cost bases and we have seen some cutting lately even from the bigger players like Woolworths, at the half they cited they need to rip out something like $400m. I think many departments across many corporates have got too fat in some areas. I know someone who has just been made redundant in a HR area for a big player. All those diversity, inclusion, sort of roles that have all been added in the last few years have all been chopped.
Wage hikes are certainly killing many of these smaller players. We have had 4/5% per year since the pandemic, Cotton On has already cited each 4% is costing it nearly $100m per year.
Only because the c suite still demand obscene amounts of money. It has to come from somewhere. CEOs earning 4 million a year is just not sustainable. Workers deserve the money and any increases management don’t.
