Supermarkets and Retail

Did drive past the Millers we have in Bowral (has been there for over 25 years or so) and I noticed a closing down sale sign on it with “Last Day” written on it. The store itself was almost empty with free coat hangers outside of the store.

Whole different meaning these days

I notice Rebel Sport has closed its store in Melbourne Central shopping centre, near the level 2 entrance from Swanston Street. With the flagship store at nearby Emporium plus another store at Bourke Street Mall, I guess it was a matter of time before the Melbourne Central store was shut down (three stores within five blocks are too many).

I didn’t realise Brandon Park had changed over to HomeCo. Might be some changes coming up?

Not gonna stop me drinking. :grinning:

I agree with them reducing the large numbers of different sizes of the same product. I have noticed the ridiculous number of different sizes of shampoos. Another one that looks ridiculous to me is how many way you can buy Vegemite.

Not sure about reducing the different brands or products. I can usually find almost all the same products at Coles and Woolies but it’s annoying when I have to go to the other supermarket because the product or brand is not available there.

Sounds like spin to me! Who’s complaining? it’s just to reduce costs and simplify their range.

I await the day when we get “Store” with all generic branding removed and one of everything on the shelves

Can’t wait for things to move towards chips in arms, legs, head, anus, sexual organs in lieu of cards, phones, etc…

But if they scrap card numbers, what do you use to make purchases online?

i expect it would be one time use numbers generated in app

I would say it would either be a one time card number that would be generated per transaction or alternatively if the site supports it a passkey like authentication system. But some banks would probably supply the card numbers that display in the bank’s app not temporary numbers for this.

Digital tokens, which use a set of changing numbers to allow secure payment, will also be rolled out.

“You might decide that you only want it to be used at that one retailer or only for the next month or only for a certain amount to come out of it.

AMP still has a bank? I thought they got rid of it?

More bank branch closures, this time from People’s First Bank.

“Customer-owned banks” (just call them credit unions for fucks sake - that’s what they were) are turning into the Big 4 so quickly.

Reminds me of the scene from Animal Farm where the pigs turn into the humans they thought they had overthrown

Even these customer-owned banks cannot avoid having to close branches. If anything, they should be taking over the leases of the shop spaces formerly occupied by the Big 4 banks.
