Supermarkets and Retail

I feel like it’s generally been around now ish, but the last few years it’s been more Halloween stuff landing first.

Ok I will. :joy: September is the start of the silly season stock being available in stores.

In a former life I worked in a big box retailer, and every year without fail someone will say “Christmas already?” I just say through gritted teeth, it’s the same time as every year!

Ahaha yes! I know exactly what it’s like. Then come January hot Cross buns come out and it’s easter. It was basically like a running joke when I was in retail. lol.

Christmas seasonal stock is high risk after
Christmas to the bottom line, gives retailers the chance to push for higher sell through going earlier.

I think October onwards would probably suffice, being nearly 4 months is a little crazy but if I chuck my finance hat on the balance sheet probably agrees the earlier the better!

Often Christmas decorations/seasonal ranges are signed off in December the prior year and orders confirmed with supplies by early Jan. Factories start producing Feb/March, on the boat and into Australian Ports late July.

While Xmas 24 seasonal stock arrives into stores right now, they are already now designing Xmas 25 stock with plans to be signed off in December.

A consortium led by the British cosmetics tycoon Mike Jatania has acquired the ethical beauty brand’s 113 UK stores which remain trading, for an undisclosed sum.

The specialist investment firm Auréa Group will also gain control of the Body Shop’s assets in Australia and North America, in a deal which was finalised late on Friday.

Yes they were all up in Big W as well today.

We haven’t even satisfied the Australian public’s fake interest in Halloween yet. Idk when Halloween became a thing but I don’t like it at all.

Christmas Stock is out on shelves for 30% of the year now. It’s all a bit full on for what is only a one day event. I don’t think Europe gets as excited as we do.

Might as well just sell the stuff year round.

I generally do my best to avoid the department stores over the next few months. Too crazy for me lol.

I can confirm. I’m travelling in Europe and touring quite a few countries. I have been to a lot of department stores and shops. No Christmas decorations or food anywhere yet.

Probably harder to get excited about Christmas over there since it’s so cold at that time of year too.

Same but i like their coffee.

You can guarantee that come Boxing Day they will have Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns

Hope to see a relocation to Rockingham in coming years.

Is this the first announcement of DJ’s leaving MF? Or has it been coming for a while?

Won’t happen. Vicinity are terrible with their centre management. Galleria Morley has been left rundown and is well overdue for a redevelopment.

They’ve just taken a 50% stake in Lakeside Joondalup. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Rebel currently have a store just down the road at Mandurah Home City, so I’d assume that store will relocate to the Forum.

Vicinity are terrible with their centre management

I think it really depends on the kind of centre. They have failures like Galleria on their hands but also run Chadstone, Chatswood, Glen, even Midland until recently. With a centre like Lakeside they’ll probably prioritize it more than any other WA centre they own and expand it. I don’t see them caring much about Rockingham to give it a department store though, especially at this time.

Myer results are out next week, but strategy change is certainly foot. Not so much talk around store network but growing sales, and increasing margin.

A few days too late, but Target will soon be no longer in Mildura in Victoria. The store is set to turn into a relocated Kmart by mid-2025. Any idea of what will take over the current Kmart space? Nearest stores I believe will now be Horsham and Bendigo (Both Also in Victoria) and are all 3 hours or more drive away.

Still plenty of stores to close around the nation such as Rockingham in Western Australia as well as a few stores in Queensland. Anyone want to predict the next lot of Target stores to close around Australia?

Flybuys New Zealand will close on December 31 this year.

I can see mt ommaney going. its at a dead end of a mall that already has a Kmart and a Big W
