Thats my local! (No I’m not in the video)

The karens on the local facebook groups have blown up about it - good way of finding out what really happened, might need some popcorn

I saw a Nine News promo about this " what really happened - find out on Nine News tonight at 6pm". Hopefully that’s true and it should be on NBN News then too.

NBN ran a VO with no real detail

Vicinity Centres has sold a 50% stake in Broadmeadows Central for $134.5 million to property group Nikos.

The article also states that Vicinity is looking to sell the adjoining Homemaker Centre via EOI.

Nikos also purchased 50% from Vicinity for Adelaide’s Colonnades Shopping Centre last year.

A far cry from when it was my local over 30 years ago when the Safeway (as it was then) and the Target (since replaced) might have bumped the value to $4.5 Million…

I didn’t realise that K MArt are scanning receipts when you exit the store.

The retail giant has made it a condition of entry that all customers’ receipts must be digitally scanned by a Kmart worker before they are able to leave the store.

I wonder if they’ll bother at stores with checkouts still down the front? The relatively new store at Bathurst (2020) has checkouts at the front due to the odd shape of the store.

They’ve been doing this for a while, at least the Kmarts I’ve visited.

I’ve seen this in action at both Kmart and Bunnings, but personally haven’t had it happen to me when exiting the store.

Is this just the same as the Bunnings workers that always check your paper receipt when you leave?

Yes, it’s just an elecronic version of verifying receipts. What people would do (from when I worked at Kmart many years ago) is they come into the store separately, then both shop for the exact same things. One pays and leaves the store, dumps the stock, comes back in, gives the receipt to the other shopper, then they leave with the 2nd trolley load - which of course marries up with the receipt in hand. They would either then keep all the goods, or get a refund on one lot and keep the other.
I would imagine with this scanning process it would alert the team member that it’s already been scanned so something potentially dodgy is going on.

I did. it recently, and what was interesting was they asked me why it took me 15 minutes to leave the store after I made the purchase.

So what was the interesting reason it took 15 minutes to leave?

I pay for my stuff and keep looking on the way out all the time in Kmart. How bizzare to ask that question.

They’re 10 year old twins and they like to buy things…

We made the purchase at the laybuy counter / click and collect area. And then the kids wanted to look at toys / books etc as we wandered toward the front of the store.

/ I’m a thief.

One of the two haha

Wow - that is so insulting.

Wow were they following you around the shop or something ? Did they not notice you had kids with you? How incredibly insulting .

It was all resolved in like 30 seconds
Them; “oh, it says it’s been over 15 minutes since you made the purchase”
Me: “yeah, we stopped by the toys on the way out”
Them: “oh, ok, see you”

By the way, on the paid parking at Knox discussion earlier, I came across this today. SA bought in restrictions to prevent certain shopping centres from charging for parking.

Woolworths has announced details of a new trial which will see 500 extra cameras placed on shelves throughout a store.

The retail giant has already begun trialling the new camera technology at its Wetherill Park store in NSW, meaning customers at the store will now start seeing new “bite-sized” mini cameras on shelves.

The new cameras will be located throughout the store including the produce, freezer and chilled sections, along with every aisle.
