Supermarkets and Retail

I’d put money on it coming about because some bright spark at HQ has had the idea that they need to drive costs down and made store managers actually achieve it without much of a guide as to how.

Its usually linked to someone new starting in a high ranked position - Coles did it every time they imported another exec from the UK

My local Woolies had some old promotional images showing on their registers. Rather odd that this is in Victoria, when we had Safeway at the time these images were current.

Old is an understatement! Actually a bit concerning that their point of sale would have images lying about from 15+ years ago

They must be fallback images baked into the software, for when current promo images go missing or expire? They’re very generic

I’m not sure what version that software is but it looks a lot older than the current version and that doesn’t even take into account the good taste magazine and the old Woolies logo.

Was going to say, that POS display looks very out of date. Assuming that’s the screen facing the customer at a serviced checkout?

Based on a google search, the last edition of Food Taste was published in August 2013

That’s what it looks like.

Eftpos machine is new.

It’s probably a checkout that just has bits and pieces added to it over the years. From looking at it the NCR pos unit is probably the same one that we got as an upgrade I think back in 2017. My store now has the latest Fujitsu POS units. For there Check outs.

Westfield Booragoon redevelopment has received approval.

I also saw similar images on the register screens a couple of years ago at my local Woolworths. It was a Woolworths Petrol promotion from the same era. I’m also in Victoria.

Funnily enough, the images were older than the store itself! It must be some sort of fallback.

Good news, It’s been in desperate need of redevelopment for a long time. I stopped going there a couple of years ago because its just lacking compared to other centres.

Still not convinced they’ll start it until works actually begin.
We had 7 years of development approval and “construction pending” for Westfield Innaloo before they canned it.

So desperately overdue though. While some areas are well maintained, others are so incredibly dated and really worn down.

I can’t seem to find Macro free range chicken breast etc at my Woolies they seem to be constantly out . Supply issues in Qld or people panic buying … or people buying cheaper meats?

There were stories n the media this week about chicken being out of stock in a lot of supermarkets. Stir fry frozen vegies seem to often be out of stock these days.

Looks like some more price ups have come across this week. Eggs have jumped about 7% this week I noted. A whole range of Woolworths branded bakery items anywhere from 5-30%. The good thing with the woolies everyday rewards app is you can compare receipts from months back.

Avocados will probably touch $4 each this month. Paid $3.60 tonight each. Bananas coming up to $5/kg now. Was in Cairns only a week back, all those little stalls alongside road, bananas $2/kg and Avo’s $2 each!

Yes but with avo they are out of season apparently. Yes it is odd how I can easily access frozen veges from Coles in my town but not Woolies . Same with eggs back when there was shortages . We only have Coles, Woolies and IGA and Coles and IGA don’t seem to suffer the issues. Woolies is the most popular of course for most shoppers here .

Sunny Queen 600g free range still $6.30.

I’ve noticed that too with frozen vegies. If I can’t find something in stock at Woolies, there seems to be no problem at Coles.

I notice both supermarkets Coles and Woolies i could not get the $3.90 Napisan the brand they make (Woolies is in a pink container , Coles is a white with blue ) … had to go and get Sard’s version on Amazon for $5.40

It’s all sodium percarbonate with enzymes etc … works exactly the same .

Of course Amazon sends it to me in a padded bag and the lid popped off so a 1/3 of it was in the bag and it said "repaired by Auspost " with a rip on the bag.

I complained… initially they wanted me to send it back lol ! and they sent another also in a padded bag … luckily no damage .
