Supermarkets and Retail

Yep, those are the ones. I noticed that they began to pop up when the Aldi opened there, perhaps they were taken out of some storage area as I had never seen several older Coles trolleys for years. I did notice though that someone had their inner plastic covers updated not long after, but it was still cool to see the orb again.

I remember seeing a Coles New World trollies at Coles at Randwick a few years ago. That branding hasn’t been used since the late 80s

I see retailers are launching Black Friday sales a week early. Ruins the whole point of the event, can’t they just wait until next Friday?

Gotta get in first!

How dare they commercialise the holy sanctity of the Black Friday Sale? Next we’ll be seeing Christmas decorations in September and Hot Cross Buns on the day after Boxing Day. :stuck_out_tongue:

Pfft day after? I’ve seen them for sale on Boxing Day in the past.

Seems to be a worldwide thing with all the UK and US retailers also promoting Black Friday for a week or more.

Yeah a few years ago it was pretty much Black Friday, but as mentioned, as one goes early, the others get scared about missing out, so in comes everyone.

An end of an era, David Jones at Mt Gravatt in Queensland will be closing this coming January. The site will be divided into a raft of mini majors and I think Mandurah in Western Australia will be next on the chopping block along with Robina in Queensland and Green Hills in New South Wales.

I was wondering how this store goes. I was over there recently and whilst Mandurah Forum is impressive now, it was very quiet each time.

I feel that Mandurah is too far to have a Myer/DJs. Cockburn/Kwinana/Rockingham is best location for a major Department store south of Booragoon.

Im surprised they didn’t put one in at Cockburn during the last major development at Gateways.

The David Jones department store at Westfield Mt Gravatt (Garden City) will close, the space to be gutted and replaced with 11 smaller retailers.

Myer Highpoint and Geelong are over two levels and could probably do with some downsizing. From memory the Geelong store is quite large and could probably even fit a Kmart on one level if Myer consolidated.

I’d Rather see a Woolies if Geelong Myer downsize.

Grand Cinemas in WA has gone into administration. They’ve cited Covid 19 and the related closure and capacity restrictions as having a substantial impact on the business.

Armadale and Joondalup closed yesterday, while Bunbury, Currambine and Warwick remain open.

I suspect Joondalup might get picked up by Event Cinemas, given its location in the 2nd biggest shopping centre in Perth. It opened as Greater Union before changing to Grand in the early 2000’s. Huge blow for Armadale, as their nearest cinema is about a 1/2 hours drive away.

I thought they had one in the City?

I visited Grand Cinemas in Joondalup in early 2016 when I was in Perth. IIRC I saw The Peanuts Movie there.

It’s sad to see a cinema chain going into administration through no fault of its own. I hope the Armadale cinema reopens either as another independent, or getting picked up by Palace Cinemas.

this has been on the cards for a while now - i first heard about DJs closing 12 months ago
