When I lived in Perth from 2004 to 2011 it was so weird. Shopping Centre was closed on a Sunday unless it was in a tourist area so Armadale was open … then some places could open that sold white goods .
When i lived there they had just opened a Spudshed at Jandakot was some loophole that it could open there I forget what.
When i moved to regional Qld around late 2011 , Sunday trading was a thing and the shopping centre was open.
Obviously a lot has changed since then.
Wasn’t this rolled back to $7.50 from $9.50 at Woolworths last year … now it says low price in red but has gone back up to $8
its the same loophole they use to run the 24 hour store at brisbane airport - and on days when other supermarkets are shut, this one gets extremely busy. it was also handy for when i did late shift and needed to shop after work
Coming back from holidays recently, I noticed that Townsville/Cairns/FNQ has no Aldi. Generally these larger regional centres are the best performing stores.
I think Cairns would struggle with a sole Aldi due to demand. Smithfield Woolworths generally seems like a tornado has ripped through it every time I shop there. Clifton Beach Target closed down recently perhaps they could use that.
I don’t think it is just as simple as opening new stores in FNQ, Aldi will also need to build a new distribution centre to serve its stores in the region. While the stores will be close to local farmers (easy access to fresh produce), it will be quite expensive to transport other goods from Brisbane and even Sydney and Melbourne.
Yeah, Booragoon is in desperate need of redevelopment. The last 10 years haven’t been kind to that place especially as other centres have had massive redevelopments. Even the Woolies at Phoenix Park has a modern logo and the centre is more run-down than Garden City.
Theres 11 in the Geelong/Bellarine/Surf Coast area which is not a much higher population to Cairns or Townsville so I am surprised theres none at all up there
