There’s been no reference to Garden City at all on the centre since the day Westfield changed the signage.
It’ll take years for the old name to fade.

People still refer to Miranda Fair even thought it became Westfield Miranda in the 80s.
Wow. When did this happen?
All the more reason to try and embed the old name in the new. They did it correctly in Geelong - Bay City Plaza becoming Westfield Bay City, rather than Westfield Geelong or something.
People still call it the old name, but at least it’s close.
Here in Melbourne, Knox City shopping centre was renamed Westfield Knox after Westfield bought the complex from AMP in a swap deal (that’s a long story), however people and public transport authorities still call it Knox City.
They eventually did rename it Westfield Geelong though
Oh, I never noticed…
It’s still probably a good idea to use a transitional name like that even if the long term plan is to use a boring place name.
Scentre already owns a shopping centre with the same Garden City name in QLD, therefore they opted against this. Don’t know why they can’t have two in different states personally…
Late last year. AMP sold half of it and control of the centre to Scentre Group. At least Westfield seem keen on redevelopment, the centre is so painfully dated and run down now when all its counterparts in Perth have refurbished in recent years.
Old names linger on; people still refer to Belconnen Mall and Woden Plaza despite Westfield having owned them for many years (decades even), and then there’s Centrepoint Tower in Sydney.
The bad thing can be if you’re new to an area and someone tells you to go somewhere using its old name, you’re trying to find it, you’re standing right out-front, looking at it but think, “no, that’s not it”.
Just ill-informed as usual.
Bizarre, even for News Corp, thinking that the California-Texas oil company brand was Australian
It’s also very misleading as the brand may not even disappear in Australia at all if Chevron decides to rebrand the current Puma Energy servos to Caltex.
Research is important.
Matt Blatt has featured on every season of House Rules on Seven.
Looks like Kogan is willing to do this for any trademark he deems valuable enough, basically identical to what was done with Dick Smith.
You mean it’s not Knox Towerpoint anymore?
And it’s a beautiful shopping centre, probably second favourite in SEQ after Carindale. Fond memories of the old Garden City peacock branding as a young kid.
Collapse of denim empire G-Star:
I always liked Pacific Fair on the Gold Coast with a mix of enclosed and open air shopping and their quaint little buildings, gave it kind of a village atmosphere (at least before the 2018 renovations).
In Sydney, my favourite is probably Westfield Bondi Junction mostly because of the food court with those magnificent harbour views.
In Melbourne, Chadstone for its sheer size and upmarket fashion precincts. Theyve got a great dining precinct near Hoyts now too.
