Supermarkets and Retail (2015-2025)

Recycling a trademark / brand they swallowed up when they purchased FAL and the WA independent supermarkets almost 20 years ago.

The livery clearly a nod to the long time Black and Gold house brand.

A very ugly store, but I suppose they’re going for the Chemist Warehouse / Bunnings Warehouse “cheap” look.
Very reminiscent of the Black & Gold branding, which I think is the cheapest/nastiest looking of the supermarket home brands.

Kinda reminds me of the No Frills stores they have in Canada. They frame the store’s branding around the famous Loblaw ‘no name’ yellow generic brand, but they also sell heaps of branded items as well.

Now there’s a brand that hasn’t been heard from in 15+ years now! Dewsons to make a comeback too? :stuck_out_tongue: /sarcasm

The yellow and black colour combo remind me of Petbarn’s branding a bit:

Cumberland Park store by the looks of it

Yep, only got renovated a few years ago when they expanded the Wooloworths, the Big W barley got touched in the reno.

The yellow and black for Supa Valu (no e ? )

reminds me of Pak n Save in NZ as does the layout.

We should sue.

If they want to push the low price warehouse model then it needs to be strictly that. If I walk in and get a sniff of the higher price IGA pricing model then I wouldn’t walk back in and perceptions are set.

I don’t think that model will work under a Franchise model either.

Looks like they’ve taken quite a bit of inspiration from other independents in this space - I see elements that remind me of Spudshed and some of the larger format Farmer Jacks stores here in WA.

Should be a totally separate brand though, the IGA co-branding isn’t a good idea as it lends itself to negative perceptions on price.

Is this location in a busy area? They will need high volume traffic to make this a success. Those prices look good.

“Save you again next time”

I just threw up in my mouth

Their super low price for that peanut butter is 1c off the normal price at Woolworths lol.

I thought a lot of the big IGA stores in Qld - Cornetts? are now Drakes. I haven’t seen any Supa Iga’s around, we only have a small convenience type IGA in Yeppoon.

They’ve made a decent effort to make it look like they’ve not made a decent effort

In unrelated thoughts, I was in woolies today and couldn’t help but think (because apparently I’m Carrie Bradshaw) that Archibald’s honey needs to invest in some new labels…

Available in Safeway?

The labels have the updated Country of Origin labelling so it’s definitely not older ones. Very strange.

Coles opened its Local supermarket at York Street in Sydney on Wednesday. It will be followed by stores in Melbourne’s inner-city Fitzroy and in the Brisbane suburb of Ascot, which will be Queensland’s first Local store.
