That the whole store network or the one your at
My local had this light refurbishment I think your referring to. They replaced the entire home department and moved all the sheets and towels to another area as well as sports and things like gardening etc.
I was in there one weekend and it seemed pretty large works in progress and when I was back a few weeks later they only just finished it.
They still have the old logo out the front which is weird
Woolworths doesnât have the greatest track record for replacing signage - Thereâs still a handful of Woolworths supermarkets using the old signage and itâs coming up close to 15 years since they refreshed it, not to mention how many Big Wâs out there never changed to the last logo - or when they were running Dick Smith and Tandy how several of the stores still had signage of past logo variants from the 1970âs up 40 years on.
Woolworths arenât particularly proactive with store refreshes - especially in locations where they have strained landlord relations.
Whole store network, plans can change of course but their intention is to have the fixtures of each store updated to match the updates that have been done over the past few years.
Considering how long it took them to rebrand every Safeway into a Woolworths.
In fact the Bigw logo that was from what the 90s has changed what 3 or 4 times since.
âWe sell for lessâ logo still sits there. That isnât even the motto anymore. Bizarre.
I assume it must be a landlord issue changing such things.
Donât know when it was first used (my guess would be around the Late 80s/Early 90s) but as far as I can tell, Big W kept the âWe Sell For Lessâ logo in use until around October 2007.
Probably.
Current logo launched in 2009. The shopping complex where my local Woolies is the anchor had an exterior refresh around 2013 and they re-erected the old signage on new fascias. The Woolies itself had a refresh around 2017 and they didnât change signage. A year later they came back and erected new signs. So it took 9 years to change 4 old signs.
Safeway in Mt. Eliza went through a few changes.

The outdoor Big W sign (with the 2010 logo) in Bunbury WA is still the original rounded one from the 1980âs. Belmont Forum had a similar sign until a few years ago.
I was down in Fremantle on the weekend and went past Target. The interior has not been updated for a while. Still has the 2000s livery on the checkouts.
Safeway in Mt. Eliza didnât become a Woolworths until well into 2017.
This one looks pretty ugly. I mean how hard is it to replace signage. One thing being many generations old let alone missing letters.
B_G W
Thatâs probably more noticeable than any other chain simply because they chose to use the bulging rectangle which dated really badly.
There are many examples of ancient Kmart signage structures still used today, but itâs a lot less noticeable because they had always used backgrounds on the signs which donât date as badly.
Here is the old classic setup. This store was apparently only referb last decade alongside the Woolworths (Adelaide).
Could that sign be any bigger?
Also I saw these in tweed heads once and they are still there. Registers look like they are from the 80s era of the red and white.
WellâŚyes, if you wanted it to be. ![]()
