They need to stop dick-measuring against Wesfarmers/Coles too
By moving towards their current market (whats become the Kmart mum) - they’ve kind of polarised their customer base. Their home brands are seen by many to be inferior and a lot of their product line is seen to be made to a (low) price.
Big W does, Kmart has fuck all for the bigger bloke. I had to buy a new button shirt up for a job interview. Neither Big W or Kmart had them - I had to go to Lowes!
Bloody Kmart mums. Please send them to re-education camps.
I did a Coles click and collect order and picked up my groceries on Friday around midday, the milk when i got home (brand name not cheap) use by date was Sunday.
I didn’t take it back, but will check carefully next time, i’m sure it should have 5 days min expiry that is what they told me on Woolworths chat once.
. Note. On last bottle and so far no weird tastes or smells .
I do the same with just about every item I purchase from the supermarket. I always grab from the back of the shelf but I’m careful to leave the display as neat as I found it. I’ll even contort my arm to grab the freshest bottle of milk from the back of the fridge with the racks that slide forward on an angle that are supposed to discourage the customer from doing that.
I want milk that has the longest use by date so I don’t end up throwing it away if I don’t use it in time. Sometimes I would remove all the bottles in front until I find the one with the latest date. But some I don’t always put the bottles back exactly like it was. Some the fridges aren’t well designed for that making it hard to put the bottles back. They should think 9f customers first and make it easier.
As mentioned in the public transport thread, Hunter Connection in Sydney CBD will be demolished to make way for the new underground station in the Metro West line.
I have been to Sydney a few times and passed through the entrance to Hunter Connection but never set foot in it. I have read it has a retail arcade and a food court and provides an underground passage to nearby Wynyard train station, avoiding the busy George Street. Can anyone fill us in how busy and popular it is, and will you miss the place?
It is very run down and probably the worst arcade in Sydney. It is a connection of three arcades under three buildings on George, Pitt and Hunter Streets which are on different levels and don’t connect up very well. All the shops are tiny, old and look like they haven’t been renovated in decades, even though some have. It won’t be missed by anyone.
The underground connection to Wynyard was recently refurbished as part of the redevelopment of the arcades at the station and a new walkway to Barangaroo. I’m sure it will be utilised to connect it to the new Hunter Street Metro Station. George Street is not so busy any more since traffic has been removed from this section to accommodate the light rail line. When the tram isn’t running through it, it’s pretty much a pedestrian mall.
I agree with JBar that it’s rundown and a bit of a hodgepodge of stores but Hunter Connection always seemed to be well patronised by city workers. It never really was a destination for tourists. Haven’t been in that part of the city since just before Covid struck, however.
There’s a great sandwich bar in there that I’d always go to for a quick bite in preference to the food courts in Pitt Street that cater more to shoppers, day trippers and tourists. The other food outlets also seemed to trade well. Lots of Asian food choices and cafes. The three multi chair barber shops have all been pretty busy when I pass. I think it’ll be missed by city workers as a convenient lunch spot and commuters will certainly miss the convenience of all the dry cleaning/alteration services in there. I used to frequently drop off and pick up stuff there on my commute via Wynyard station.
Yeppoon Qld finally has a full size Bunnings, the old one was tiny, the new one is 9x larger. they simply made the old hardware store into a small Bunnings for a few years.
There is supposed to be a Hungry Jacks going there too.
Target Country closed earlier this year is going to be a cinema going in there with a redevelopment of Keppel Plaza
Yep store refurbishment parts of the store (kitchen/dining/appliances + several areas on the clothing side). The kitchen/dining area now looks like a carbon copy of Target’s layout (easiest way to describe it).
Random pointless note- the name “Brilliant Basics” range (aka the cheap range of clothing, homewares etc) which replaced “Smart Value” a few years ago… was used several years ago to describe the store presentation standards. When I heard the name change from Smart Value to Brilliant Basics I did a double take (as in I spotted the reuse of the name straight away).
