Super Radio Network

Probably also easier than doing talkback for 3 hours.

And cheaper when it’s only for one station.

BOG stations set the bar for localism even though they have let it slip a bit in the last few years. I used to listen to 2PK and it was local from 6am to 6pm that to my knowledge has been cut at 1pm. One big issue is that it’s hard for them to keep the talent as they only stay with the station for a year or so and move on so they are forever recruiting. Even their FM network is local more than their competitors with The Rok local from 6am to 2pm and the bigger FMs local until 6pm.

That is true, but it doesn’t help when they (reportedly) only offer low pay.

At least they are keeping it local they could use a SCA like model and only be local 3 hours a day which is what they have to according to legislation and yes some BOG stations do that like their stations in Coffs Harbour and Orange NSW but that was more for historical reasons. I hope that doesn’t change.

Went to listen to Lawsie’s final show and I came across the tail end of what sounded like a local breakfast show on 2HC. Not sure if it’s live or voice tracked or if it’s even produced in Coffs Harbour seeing as 2HC has vacated its office space opposite the Coffs Showground. I’ll have a closer listen on Monday.

I think it is coming from Grafton not sure if it is live or not.

I had a listen to 2HC between 6.25 and 7.00 this morning. Only one ad break, one voice break clearly voice tracked and some songs were cut short. I’m not sure if this is a soft launch into something a bit better but I seriously think 2HC would be better off just running the standby tape at the transmitter site because that’s essentially what the “2HC Breakfast Club” is at the moment. Or better still, go back to taking Richard King’s show.

I thought 2HC was only local 12-3pm weekdays?

That’s what I thought too.

They are but who knows what George and Despina have up their sleeves moving forward. But the current attempt at a breakfast show at 2HC is woeful.

Have 2PM Port Macquarie and 2EL Orange also changed their breakfast shift, or are they still taking the 2SM/2HD breakfast show?

531 still takes Richard King’s show. Not sure about 2EL.

TBH wall-to-wall voicetracked music is better than a networked breakfast show any day IMO.

I wonder if this will still be on SRN or another network (or simply online)?

Currently in Mudgee, 2MG FM were local 12-5 this afternoon, playing some good tunes.

Though it wwnt downhill a little when the “Talking Sport” intro played as the local intro still said “1449 2MG” and the announcer said “Welcome BACK”.

Just seems like a few transition markers on a playout system would have sufficed, and maybe a little training. What does SRN use for playout? Is it a decent system?

Simian

I’ve never used it. My friends who have say it’s ok but not terrific.

Simian could do a lot compared to other low-cost automation systems 10+yrs ago, but it hasn’t kept up with the times. I imagine running a network like SRN from it would be tedious.

I imagine actually working there might be even worse.

Hopefully with the new brigade in charge, things will be looking up for everyone.

It’s ok until the thing gets the shits and plays up or the computer crashes.

The key is to give the software a reboot every few days

It has it’s days, but generally it is not as bad as people think
