BRock is live and local
Looks like 4KZ is gone now too; networked crap on at present. RIP to the last old school âfull serviceâ commercial radio station in the country.
They couldâve recycled old weeks of logs and scheduled them. Probably what was done every other holiday. This shows a style of micromanagement to interfere.
I had a listen to 4KZ online this evening - an absolute dogs breakfast.
The audio from the networked programming is really low and the ads are at a much higher volume - and the commercial breaks are all over the place⌠it appears that where a client has more than one spot (on rotation), every ad from the client is played side by side (so we heard 4 Harvey Norman ads in a row)⌠the ad breaks go for 6-7mins, and of course after three mins, the network program resumes, underneath the commercial break at a much lower volume.
I also had a listen to 4AM - they were still running their own music program earlier this evening.
I can confirm that B-Rock is parallel with Roccy FM Young tonight.
Was listening again to 4KZ online this morning⌠Pete Graham no longer on 4KZ / 4AM, replaced as expected by Chris Smith.
Something I noticed⌠a commercial break,a 4KZ ID, then Chris comes in and says âYeah, looking forward Ron Wilson starting here on 2SM on Mondayâ -
It was likely Chris was coming out of a Ron Wilson promo on 2SM, but what he said would have meant bugger all to everyone else around the country listening.
I think someone needs to tap Chris on the shoulder and remind him of small things like this.
This was something that John Laws was able to master! He was so good at it, Iâm sure many thought he was broadcasting from their own town out in the bush
I actually find the increased branding & references to both 2SM and the Super Radio Network quite refreshing during Chrisâ new show.
Laws would hardly ever mention 2SM - and I donât think he ever said the words, âSuper Radio Networkâ.
Sydney is their biggest radio market - and the most competitive. So it only makes sense to do what âthe othersâ do, and leverage the show off its Sydney base.
Itâs also great to have just the one 2SM openline number these days - and not having a separate line just for 9-12 weekdays.
Chrisâ new show feels like itâs part of the network, rather than an outlier. He references Talkinâ Sport and has his colleagues on for a chat, rather than how Laws previously would speak to SENâs Jimmy Smith.
I put this down to Chrisâ experience as a Content Director. You can definitely hear it.
TBH, what lets his show down is Dianne Coveney Garland. Hopefully once the new ex-smooth newsreader starts next week with Ron Wilson, she might also hopefully be Chrisâ newsreader as well.
B-Rock is still parallel with Roccy this afternoon, so evidently now a full networked station. Weâll see what happens when the radio year starts but the signs arenât good.
Roccy would have to be the weirdest name for a commercial station in Australia. What does it even mean?
Roccy is a backronym for Radio of Cowra Cootamundra and Young, the largest towns in the stations broadcast area.
Correctomundo. They did have a naming competition iirc. I agree that the name is a bit of a WTF. Cherry FM would have been the obvious choice.
Weird because the other day I heard the 9am hour and he was local and IDing BRock.
Yeah, why would you pick anything else? (reminds me of a certain motor vehicle ad!).
I taugt in Young for a year. Surely they couldâve done better. Rocky FM at lrast.
95.5 The Rok also another weird one down that way. Roccy, The Rok and now BRock playing 80s to now.
Probably worse than all of them is K-Rock Geelong which plays pretty much no rock at all nowadays.
At least the SRN stations would include some rock.
Yeah, what a KRock.
Yeah, should be called K-Hit or K-Hot instead of K-Rock!
They should have flipped Bay FM to the hit music format, and let K-Rock be the classics station. Would have made more sense with the football.
They couldâve been famous for Klassic Rock.
