Sunrise

Just a thought… but would it be worth Melbourne implementing local news updates from HSV7? Similar to Perth.

Currently the show fell 3rd again.

Maybe broadcasting from HSV7 on Friday’s might do the trick again

But didn’t they still run second or third on Fridays back then?

Depends if they have a set they could use. When the use to do it from Melbourne they used the AFL Game Day set, and obviously it hasn’t been on air for years.

They could try local updates, which leads to the question of who would present them?

IMO each city should have local updates

Of course, but it takes awhile to turn the tide. Since the change in presenters and Martin Place move Sunrise has fallen from 1st to 2nd and now 3rd in that market. Something needs to be done.

For Melbourne: Blake Johnson Monday and Tuesday and Rebecca Maddern Wednesday-Friday.

For Brisbane: Tamra Bow

For Adelaide: Andrea Nicolas

Who would you have present the afternoon news on the days when Bec presents

Also Andrea Nicolas is the state political reporter in Adelaide, so having her do local updates wouldn’t work.

Perhaps not including so much news about Sydney may help them, it is supposed to be a National programme and you mainly get Sydney news, unless there is something major happening in other states, they could do with learning how to pronounce suburbs and their correct locations may help. I never realised that Frankston was East, always thought it was a Southern suburb.

Elspeth Hussey then

Ok this is getting into mock territory. Enough.

As long as Sunrise continues to win nationally, is it really worth the hassle of trying to appease one market? Quite frankly, who cares if it’s not winning a certain city - the priority is a national/5-city win.

Clearly you don’t know how add revenue works per market ?

Loosing Melbourne, you’re loosing big $$$$

I know a few people who used to work within Sunrise and the 7 digital area. The reason is money. They make no money from Twitter/X, so they point viewers to the Sunrise website, YouTube or Facebook, where there is revenue attached.

I’ve been told Sunrise is always a bit of revolving door, but the bigger movements have been within the online and social teams, which apparently Sunrise doesn’t actually control. It’s the 7news°com°au team that manage them.

Sound issues this morning. Most noticeable on the opener but also on one live cross, then with Sally at one stage in the first 5 mins.

Hilarious. Oh so you won Adelaide and Perth, who cares? Big advertisers want results in Melbourne and Sydney. Melbourne is also growing faster than Sydney and will be the biggest city pretty soon so you want to do well in the biggest market no matter what.

Seven also has a lot to lose given the $$$ on AFL rights and how important big numbers are in Victoria for that investment to pay off.

As I’ve said before, Sunrise is the NSW and QLD show. It doesn’t get Victorian news or issues and too often it’s used as a discussion point for shock jocks and washed up politicians from NSW and QLD on the show. Or the best they can do is Jeff Kennett.

I think seven underestimated how much broad appeal Koch had, eg his footy stuff was front and centre and he was backing a team not from NSW. Shirvo is just another Sydney pretty boy.

Pretty sure Melbourne’s population overtook Sydney’s during 2023.

It’s actually funny if you have a look at ratings and when their location based promos pop up, theres always a correlation. Dip in ratings = cash promo. Cash Grab only ever happens in Melbourne and Western Sydney.

lol so? plenty of people move for job opportunities! Imagine ‘nah I can’t host sunrise cause I bought a flat in Melbourne’.
Anyway it’s all hypothetical.

They’re not gonna reduce their star reporters to reading local early morning updates.

Not just about buying a flat. It’s roots, friends, partner and the fact that he could eventually succeed Amor.

Of course, but realistically, none of those would actually prevent him from taking over on Sunrise if that opportunity were ever to arise.

But again this is all hypothetical.
