Sunrise

I have a strong suspicion they are already have someone already chosen . Based on what Kochie has said in regards to him leaving and his contract stuff it sounds do like he gave Seven some time to find a suitable replacement in house . I would even dare suggest before he signed his new deal.

So are we backing up Matt Shirvington as a permanent in 3 weeks time.

They literally said that in the press release.

I don’t know. I just find he comes across like he loves himself sort of person.

They have spent obviously a lot of time with Doran and Shirvo on the program, going for an external probably won’t be great culture wise.

These morning programs have shifted more tabloid and fluffy vs 15 years ago. So they probably don’t need to opt for the newest Journalist host that can conduct hard hitting interviews when required.

The successor will likely leak out in the coming days regardless.

Shirvo is a very accomplished TV presenter. He’s been hosting tv shows for 20 years himself.

Of course they have, it’s locked in.

I suspected that they might do this- take him off air whilst he’s still on contract. This way they avoid having to pay a retainer. I thought it would have been at the half way mark though, not this soon.

As pointed out on the Seven press release, he does also own a some of his own stuff on the side; Pinstripe Media does “branded content” stuff and related things (things like the small business shows, Kochie’s Business Builders et al, that were 7 Network weekend fillers for a while), and the ausbiz FAST channel which is primarily on 7plus [and other places: Flash, Samsung TV Plus, etc].

I doubt he’s going to be straying too far from the Seven ecosystem, so to speak (see mention of how he’d probably be brought in for special comments), but for the next little while at least, his contributions to Seven itself might be a bit limited. Maybe that’ll change in 2025 (as per those 3AW quotes above), or maybe he’ll decide that that’s enough.

Saw someone above mention Dr Chris :eyes: The timing certainly intriguing!

I can vaguely remember him presenting Beyond 2000 or Backyard Science or something, was it on Saturdays (when Seven lost the AFL to Ten-Nine-Foxtel) around 2004 or 2005?

A nice word from former colleague, Ricardo Gonçalves.

Kochie mentioned he was ready to go late last year, but was eventually convinced to stay another 6 months. Which lines up with Browns contract with ten expiring. Seems like a hint to me.

Larry could get a promotion? Dr Brown for Mornings

I was initially thinking of Sonia Kruger? She did host Today Extra on Nine for 8 years, and that’s got a similar vibe to Sunrise. But then again, I don’t know how she’ll be for 3.5 hours a day for 5 days a week…

Shirvo, Matt Doran, Michael Usher are some serious contenders. Some have suggested Dr Chris Brown, but i think he’s not ready for the weekday version yet (Weekends though? Perhaps).

I will not watch Sunrise if he is the replacement host. I certainly hope not.

Why would they pick DCB. First of all, he’s a veterinarian. He’s a TV Host not a journalist.

I don’t find her very likeable, and I feel like I’m not the only one who thinks that. Don’t think she’d be a good choice.

Is that a requirement? Is Matt Shirvington a journalist?

I don’t mind her in small dosages (aka DWTS). For a “morning type show” where there’s advertorials and less chatter and the show runs for a shorter period, she’s fine.

For Sunrise, i dunno. I’m just throwing her name in the ring. lol. But agree that ive noticed negativity towards Sonia Kruger.
