Why don’t 7 split Sydney production off between Martin Place and Eveleigh? Asking as a hypothetical (get everything set up and wired) and not in past-tense. Or is the studio actually NEP’s?
What would be the point?
I also think that an attraction to the Martin Place studio is that members of the public can watch shows and news bulletins being broadcasted live through the windows.
Mostly just a new space that would allow Sunrise to explore a few things again like shots, maybe even segments. It’s been so locked down for the last several years, we’ve got talent (and EP) up for speculation in a few more years, a new space for what might have to be a new show could be good. Maybe have a dedicated space for building the brand just like NBC Today.
I also think since Sunrise is the biggest part of a contiguous 7-hour live production schedule at Martin Place with some need to update items for delayed timezones, physically separating it can allow The Morning Show to tape a full show on a busy news day (pre-empted content can be put online and in the weekend shows) and open up the potential for, say, most markets screening The Morning Show, but Sunrise comes back on in one or two markets to cover region-specific breaking news live.
Just blabbering on, but yeah.
I believe one of the main factors of Martin Place is that it’s a convenient place for talent to access - it’s not far from the airport for international guests, it’s down the street from state parliament, and in the CBD near anything finance - anyone they wanted to get on one of their shows could easily get there.
The windows are an added benefit, one they utilised more in the past.
This is the main point yes
However I believe that it is time for the news to move out of there and keep it Sunrise and TMS only.
They won’t seperate them. Best hope is they move the entire operation to Eveleigh when the Martin Place lease is up.
But why though? You’ve got studio space at Martin Place - you may as well use it.
Otherwise the studio is just collecting dust between The Morning Show finishing and Sunrise starting the next morning.
It limits what Sunrise can do. Either someone needs to go or a TRUE multi purpose set needs to be installed.
The space is just currently poorly used and designed.
I get what you’re saying, however Sunrise and 6pm news are at opposite ends of the day, and hence shouldn’t limit what Sunrise does.
If anyone moves, it should be The Morning Show, since Sunrise and The Morning Show air back-to-back, and The Morning Show setting up can limit Sunrise.
Furthermore, the Morning News setting up each morning really limits The Morning Show in the last 30 minutes of the program.
You aren’t getting my point. The SPACE and the way it is designed limits what sunrise can do. The fact the news set is being brought into their space it all looks so disjointed and a mess on air. It’s not about shows being on at the same time.
Sure TMS should move. I still think the Martin place studio isn’t the best, it’s limited and either you spend big bucks on a multi purpose set or you don’t have anything. They went for bare bones multi purpose and then some weird news chunk. It’s just a mess on air these days.
Fair point, it’s not the greatest setup but Sunrise seem to have done fine with it, for instance using the news area for the coronavirus wrap up that Kochie used to do every morning in the height of the pandemic.
No need to go out of their way to make any changes whilst they’re still No. 1 IMO.
I disagree. The news portion of it is disgusting. It’s lazy and unimaginative set design.
I think the space this time was used terribly, the last set used the space heaps better.
Pell has no sense of good design. It’s very evident in the graphics and set.
Hoping atleast the new graphics will be better.
Sunrise 100% need to do better with their set and make changes. Number one or not, they’re putting an inferior product (from a set pov) to air each day.
And a dated product. You know it’s time when the host says their set is old on air.
I think a set like NBC Today would be perfect for Channel 7.
They will still have a big screen to have a Seven News desk and other programs. They will also be utilizing the windows much more.
Agreed!
Just a reminder to show people what the space is actually like - see below the model reveled prior to the last set launch.
The area closes to where Pell is holding that set piece is storage. You can see the dotted line on the entertainment side of the floor. So it’s an awkward shaped “studio”
It’s a much smaller space then I expected when seeing it in person compared to spaces like Willoughby.
I wonder what ever happened to the screen and platform that we once saw when the set was being constructed . . . Never made it to air.
Personally still think they ruined the set with the wooden floor boards on top of the marble.
I think it was used for a couple of days for entertainment and then it just disappeared!
