Sunrise (2020-Feb 2025)

Captions seems to be rather dramatic compared to Woolworth’s real position and is it a “Developing Story”

It’s been taken way out of proportion but the media won’t shut up about it. Let’s move on already.

Is this Seven’s biggest effort into Aussie Open news coverage (a major presenter on-location and every day so far now mid-week 2) since losing the rights after 2018’s?

No need for the snide remark.

Their commentary always says, “Labor this… Labor that”, rather than “the Federal Government.”
Today on 9 is the same.

Congratulations Kochie. He made Sunrise into a morning institution for Australia and changed breakfast TV.

Shirvo’s report on the Australia Day Awards incorrectly described recipient John Foreman as “musical director of 7’s Carols by Candlelight” with vision of Carols in the Domain.
Wonder when someone will realise the error? It’s aired at every newsbreak until 7.00 so far.

Edit: repeated until at least 8am. Do Nat and Shirvo not remember they were in the domain? And Chong Lim was musical director and John Foreman never has been?!

Always good to see him on the show. Something I could’ve discussed before Christmas last year, but didn’t think of it - could he be up to present the show next summer, filling in for Shirvo and/or Matt Doran when they go away on their breaks?

Can you imagine the headlines? I think not.

I’d bring him back for a week for a special event when ratings get low, like NBC Today did with Merideth.

Why would he want to?

They’re reading a script probably not even taking in what it says.

I very much doubt it. He has his own empire to run, plus Port Adelaide. He doesn’t need to be a summer fill-in.

The attention turns to who else they bring in as fill-in and possible successor to, Doran I guess. If Usher were to leave 7 or move up to 6pm for some reason (I say IF, not speculating, just a hypothetical), Doran is likely to move to Spotlight and/or Latest alongside Ange. Problem is, 7 really doesn’t have a male to fill that void. My tip would be Tom Hartley, although he’s still quite young, and unknown within the “Sunrise family”. Liam Tapper also a possibility but untested as a host.

Reaso is out, I don’t see him wanting to return to those early hours. Paul Kadak is a capable reader but not overly engaging. Blake Johnson is entrenched in Melbourne, don’t see him leaving there.

The other option is to have a female duo host (Mon & Sal) WS and have a bloke read news. Then the options widen up more.

If David Koch ever returned to regular TV, I think he would be excellent on his own current affairs / news show.
