Sunrise (2020-Feb 2025)

It seems that the live crosses are used for the top of the hour inserts.

Today there were two - one to Tweed Heads and the other to the obligatory Kangaroo Point cliffs.

Otherwise mainly prerecorded or RVOs. The inclusion of sport varies - sometimes just one stories, other times a few, but very rushed. Today there was breaking news of a burst water main.

I’m deeply disappointed that Sunrise still predominantly white . I really wish , as with Today, they would enject some more diversity into their cast….

Just like the main Sunrise, the half hour is generally shorter with fewer crosses and more LVOs, sometimee even an animal story.

It may be on delay but they still have to stick to Sydney timing. I don’t know how their system works but I know when I used to work in radio, there were hard time markers and if you were out, you had dead air or the next event crashed in. In any case, there’s a window and they clearly haven’t work out pacing to rectify that last minute weather dash. Personally, I’d just drop one or two of the towns from the weather.

They can all be on the map, but don’t have to be read out…

Australian TV stations never like to show where their programs are being presented from. For example graphics with say studio instead of Sydney or Martin place for example. Most people know that both commercial breakfast news shows are presented from Sydney. I don’t understand why they try and hide it. They do the same during the local 6pm news which makes even less sense. Why not just say live from our Brisbane studios here’s xxx with the lates Queensland news.

I’ve been enjoying having both Kochie and Nat back.

They identify where it’s coming from by saying BRISBANE television centre.

I also think they should start with the Sunrise logo/ orange theme on the backdrop for the wide shot as they zoom in on Bianca, then change to the city backdrop during the stories.

Sorry, yes - that’s what I meant. And just rotate different ones every half hour.

Typical promo tonight in Queensland for Sunrise during the news. However, no mention of local live news. Missing an opportunity to record a message from or at least mentioning Bianca.

I’m so over this set. I bloody hope they aren’t going to carry this crap over to the new studio.

Enough with the steadicam too.

I don’t mind the steadicam.

It’s just the way they use the set is ugly and disjointed. But it’s also aged incredibly quickly even with the new graphics on it.

They need to go back to the old set style and one that is multi purpose and welcoming.

They overuse the steadicam.

And yes I think they look for ways to use all the space instead of playing it down.

No Sam Mac this morning and no fill-in, Nat & Kochie reading weather.

Edit: JT in for 7.12 cross

This whole time they should have still been airing this promo daily in primetime.

But instead of saying things like “we have reporters from Coolangatta to Cairns” use grabs from that day’s inserts of reporters in the different locations. Also, show examples of Sunrise breaking news before Today. It’s happened countless times.
