Sunrise (2020-Feb 2025)

True though. Anyone for Hamish McLachlan hosting Sunrise

Well, running - being an athlete is one. And yes… a huge “personality”. Google him running…. There’s a very entertaining GIF.

But I agree. Unlike a lot of others he has personality and background experience. I’m enjoying him on screen and filling in

Just wanted to say….you think Matt is good at interviewing but Nat isn’t?!? Wow.

Maybe. That’s part of my point… he’s not ready for Koch’s chair yet.

Hamish? The one with less of a personality than a brick wall? Yes he’s more lively than Hamish, Ferguson and Mel McLaughlin but what a sad comparison. @NewsWeary remember what you thought about Matt on Holey Moley? You’d find a similar thing if you saw him on Sunrise.

And @MBB, jealous? Who isn’t? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: I’m just asking you to look beyond the eye candy.

Yes, at the moment I’d say in my opinion that Shirvo is a better interviewer than Nat.

I still believe that Nat is much stronger reading a script as a newsreader. With respect, I really can’t watch her interviews - she may be asking the right questions but her presentation is all over the place. I admit the one thing I don’t like about Shirvo is how much he raises his voice when asking questions, but apart from that I don’t have a problem at all - his pacing when speaking is fine, and he has a good personality to interact with the co-presenters.

Can I ask, in your opinion does the host absolutely have to be a serious news journalist like Doran or Usher? We’ve had David Koch, the finance guy, host for many years without an issue. Beretts, the sports guy, has filled in many times with no problems. Now we get Matt Shirvington, who yes is still learning, but seems to be getting a positive reception and has a high chance of being Kochie’s successor. Sunrise is hardly a serious news program that requires an absolute pro to anchor it.

A very strong and competent team this morning, especially for ‘over summer when no one is watching’ :+1:

Weekend Today commented on the wedding of their producer to “some guy named Matt” this morning… showed some photos as well.

“Some guy named Matt”. Aren’t we better than that? So childish.

Sounds to me like a joke.

It was a joke. And if you watched, you’d have known that.

Eddy and Berrets on Monday 27 December. Tarsh presenting news. Berrets also sport. No weather presenter.

Strange then how Eddy said on her Instagram something like “Reunited with Matt Shirvington for the next few weeks on Sunrise’. Perhaps Shirvo is off sick because it was reported that only Musher and Shirvo will fill-in for Kochie over summer.

I think this might be Tarsh’s first time reading news on the weekday show.

Maybe it’s just for the Christmas to New Year week?
