Sunrise: 2016 Relaunch

I don’t think anyone in WA or SA is under any illusion that Sunrise isn’t live in those markets. Guess QLD is a little different with the lesser time difference.

The point is, sometimes it is live into all markets if there is breaking news, so it should always specify the timezone it is live in.

Because Sunrise is actually broadcast live here in QLD for half the year, a lot of people forget that it’s no longer live during the summer months, so the AEDT is a good idea in that situation.

In SA and WA, Sunrise is never live at any time of the year, so I think that would make it easier for them to know that it isn’t live.

A good example of forgetting it’s not live in QLD in Summer.
A few years ago, when I lived in Mackay, back in the days of Monique doing the weather.
There was a cyclone heading towards the area, and Monique was sent up to Mackay to present the weather from there.

The previous night 7 Local News was letting everyone know that they could go down and be a part of the weather report “from 6am tomorrow morning”.

Not surprisingly when it aired on TV, Monique was all by herself for the 6am and 6:30am crosses and surrounded by crowds of people for the 7am cross onwards.

Personally, I think a better solution to the AEDT drama, is to just broadcast Sunrise and The Morning Show live into QLD & SA all year-round. WA should stay as it is, due to the time zone difference being so large.
But there’s no reason why QLD & SA can’t be live, the time zone difference is not that big.

I don’t think it’d be too hard to accomplish.
Something like:
Sunrise: 4:30am - 8am (QLD), 5am - 8:30am (SA), 5:30am - 9am (AEDT).
The Morning Show: 8am - 10:30am (QLD), 8:30am - 11am (SA), 9am - 11:30am (AEDT).

Then QLD and SA could have a one hour local morning news bulletin while AEDT continue with a 30-minute morning news bulletin.

Agree. Some of the weather graphics look like they’ve been put together by Grade 3 kids using Powerpoint.

The new set and graphics look fantastic - look very similar to NBC Today.

Graphics are nice. The only thing that needs changing is the headline/time/weather bar. The font could be made smaller and bar shrunken which would enable the entire super to be moved downwards.

I agree Edwina role needs more defining. There are enough screens to have an orange room type segment.

Feels like a bit of a clone of Today at times with kochie and Sam leading the headlines before Nat and also having Eddy do entertainment With Nelson like how Richard used to do withRichard Reid on Today.

Just to give you a better (rough) look at the new Sunrise Graphic:(Not all accurate)
I do prefer your mock, and the opener headline super featured in the mock’s thread.

(Caps)
Thanks for all the caps. As seen in the breaking news super, I think the red headline looks better than the blue. I also don’t like the graphic behind the couch shot, at first I thought it was finance graphics from Today’s Money Minute. And the performance area looks pretty much the same, but yes it is bigger
Good idea having a 9am update.
Today9 did this at one stage, I really like that idea and I hope they continue with that.

Overall, here are my 10 cents worth, if I haven’t already added my 75cents,, anyway. The set and lighting is really good. Yes, the previous set was more welcoming, long lasting and more unique, but I think the new format suits the new set- to the format in a moment. I also think that parts of the set should be fixed, only move the set pieces together so Martin Place can’t be seen where its not suppose to and pan the camera down so that ,for the desk shot from Nat’s camera, so you can’t see the multiple set pieces and a blank black space at 6am in the morning. Other than that and what I mentioned this morning the set and graphics are good.

However, the opposite should be said for the format. Sorry Pell, I give you brownie points for trying something new, but I am not a fan. I saw a lot of repetition, I saw a lot of repetition, I saw a lot of repetition, every 30 minutes until 7.30 at least, not aware post then. I loved Nat’s news updates the most in the 2 hours, only when they were right on the x.00 or X.30, I think at 6.30 was one. The 5.30 30 minute segment isn’t bad and as I have said before, I believe, it is highly inspired by Today9’s format. 6-7, fine I will let them get a way with it but come 7’olock, I haven’t seen such rubbish. The content was so light and weird, especially for the most important 30 minute period and within the first 2 minutes I wanted to grab the remote and watch Today/News Breakfast but I thought I would give them a chance, and I know not to do that again. Eddy do entertainment With Nelson
So what time did Nelson first appear?

Here are the finance graphics, I don’t think have been capped, from this morning. The cross to Commsec was missing from what I saw, although Eddy made a pun about Craig James’ head on the large screen. Sorry I am only forbidden to post one image per post: <img src="/uploads/default/original/2X/7/7338ce483f5155512d149f26e19bd2c3a67b83e6.png" width=“690” height="390>

I quite like it. The ticker at the bottom is quite readable.

So today was the day and I truly don’t think you could deny, every element of the sunrise presentation was considered and developed.

The full screen graphics look great and the use of the steadycam is simply sensation. The detail of the onscreen graphics is also great and the lighting is excellent to say the least.

However I honestly believe the set itself is a step backwards. That last set I thought was just incredible and had enough soul to be comfortable, but not too much that it was ott. This set is VERY cold and I do not like at all the main backdrop. There’s no soul there at all. It has no warmth, and making it worse is the marble floor, something I admit I thought yesterday was an asset. I feared for Today with this relaunch for Sunrise, but after Today I wouldn’t be too concerned if I was Mark, Karl or Lisa.

Looking forward to see what they come up with next week.

But not surprising. You are never going to please everyone and everyone has their own tastes. Keeps life interesting.

Sunrise’s news flipper should be something like Good Morning America’s. I’d prefer a news ticker.

OH WOW! Just watching on TV for the first time, and the on screen graphics look SHOCKING quality wise. They are very grainy:

My TV set clearly needs to be adjusted because the new Sunrise graphics go to the edge of the screen on both sides, but I agree they’re far too big - how is it they’ve managed to squash so much of the text?

No idea why Bec Maddern is on set again today, presenting a story on the Super Bowl ads when one would have clearly thought that was Eddie’s job?

They’ve also got what sounds like Chris Bath (could be wrong?) voicing a piece on the Steve Jobs movie. Then they cross to Eddie introducing a story on MKR from the new performance area, what about her technology hub?

There are some great elements to the set, but there’s too much glare from all the screens and windows still. The main desk is too small for 5 people let alone 4 and I much prefer when its positioned in front of the window.

The screen with live shot behind them is again too small and the panels around it are too much with all the pastel lighting. I wish they would’ve done away with using wood laminate in some areas of the new set also, looks so cheap.

Some tweaks and improvements are definitely needed.

Thanks for joining us in this historic thread as Sunrise got a lick of paint. Normal discussion and any tweaks to the relaunch can be discussed in the main Sunrise thread.
