FTA TV networks reached almost 13 million Australians on Sunday night for one of the biggest totals of the year. Nine won its eight straight Sunday with a 6-point margin though the network’s share was down two. That went to Seven that was up two with other networks unchanged week-on-week.

The top program was Married At First Sign where the latest commitment ceremony topped 1.8 million, though that was 180k lower than last Sunday’s record audience. It was still well ahead of the competition with Australian Idol closest on 987k, down 30k week-on-week.

Muster Dogs on ABC improved 20k for the season final while Australian Survivor also posted a small gain to 555k.

Later in the night, 60 Minutes was an easy winner with 860k despite dropped 45k while The Hunters on Seven improved almost 60k to just under 400k. The final ever episode of The Newsreader hit a season low down to 313k while Matlock on 10 dropped to 232k.

Sunday Afternoon AFL averaged just over 603k though the number many be adjusted due to small overrun in Melbourne. Meanwhile NRL on Nine had just over 500k. Wide World of Sports and The Footy Show also made the top 30.

It was a close battle at 6pm for news dominance with Seven just 9k ahead. The +1.5 million rating was Nine’s highest for the year and Seven’s highest since January.

Breakfast TV again attracted big audiences though not as high as Saturday. Weekend Sunrise with 563k was 60k lower while Weekend Today dropped by 180k and Weekend Breakfast by 100k.

I wonder if the national ratings last night were affected by power outages in South East Queensland and northern NSW due to Cyclone Alfred?

Well, obviously they would have if people in those areas have ratings measurement devices.

It recorded a National Total TV Reach of 3.229 million and a Total TV National Audience of 1.843 million - up 6.4% year-on-year. It achieved a BVOD audience of 493,000 - up 20.0% year-on-year.

  • 9News Sunday was the No.1 news bulletin across the 5 City and in Sydney with all key demos and Total People. It was also the No. 1 program with Total People and GS18+ in Brisbane. It secured a National Total TV Reach of 2.586 million and a Total TV National Audience of 1.533 million - up 32.5% year-on-year. It achieved a BVOD audience of 150,000 - up 64.8% year-on-year.

  • 60 Minutes dominated its timeslot with Total People across Australia and in all metro capitals. It also won with all key demos in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. It secured a National Total TV Reach of 1.791 million and a Total TV National Audience of 860,000 - up 8.3% year-on-year. On 9Now, it recorded a BVOD Audience of 115,000 - up 16.2% on the same night last year

  • Sunday Afternoon NRL secured its timeslot with Total People in Sydney and Brisbane. It achieved a National Total TV Reach of 1.366 million and a Total TV National Audience of 516,000 up 13.7% year-on-year. On 9Now, it recorded a BVOD Audience of 70,000 - up 70.7% year-on-year and the highest rating regular season Sunday match (excluding Vegas).

  • Weekend Today was the breakfast program of choice with Total People in Melbourne. It secured a Total TV National Audience of 393,000 and a BVOD audience of 53,000 - up a massive 130.4% on the same morning last year

  • The 9Network was the No. 1 network on Sunday across the 5 City Metro with all key demos and Total People

  • 9Now was the No.1 CFTA BVOD platform on Sunday across Australia with all key demos and Total People


Australian Survivor: Brains V Brawn II:

  • Reached 1.01 million total viewers.
  • #2 in its timeslot in 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s.
  • Season to-date: Reaching 4.8 million total national viewers.
  • 7-Day Total Viewing Audience Sunday, 2 March: Reached 1.33 million total viewers and was the #2 entertainment show in 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s.

  • Yesterday, 10 reached 3.86 million Australians across Network 10 and 10 Play.

Brisbane News results were highest for the year for both networks. Highest Nine bulletin since the Olympics. Highest for Seven since August 2021. Brisbane beakfast was also very popular.

Nine achieved 40% shares in Sydney and Brisbane while Seven narrowly won Adelaide and regionals.

AFL Boost? Maybe the fact that AFL finished 10mins late. I can understand why 7 kept Sunday arvo matches at the expense of Saturday night if they get the boost for news (didn’t happen much last year tho)

Is the perth order reach numbers but correct order based on totals?

At least Seven coded Sunrise Extended for yesterday’s rolling coverage. Compared tp Saturday, when they didn’t bother. Nine’s Today did finish an hpur later, so Wide World of Sports and the Foory Show will be adjusted.

I wish that the final ever The Newsreader rater better for the ABC.

As much as I hate the stuff, it’s truly just unbelievable the figures this show pulls in 2025 on free to air.

That news seems fairly high for Brisbane, isn’t there a ton of outages still power-wise?

The Brisbane market is 3.9 million so there are plenty available to tune in even if a few hundred thousand are without power.
