Seven and Nine were neck and neck for most of the night on the main channel but a +9% share on 7Mate for the Sweden V USA World Cup game gave Seven a 10 point win. It was 7Mate’s highest share since 2021

The night featured a head-to-head battle with two reality formats launching. The 19th season of The Block took bragging rights with a linear metro audience of 722,000 just ahead of The Voice with 716,000.

The Block’s result is down from 867,000 for 2022’s premiere with 2021 on 747,000 and 2020 with 951,000. The Voice’s audience was also well down and compared to 2022’s launch that had 843,000 with 2021 recording 1.33 million. For both franchises it was their lowest launch audiences ever.

Following 7News Spotlight just pipped 60 Minutes in preliminary numbers 458k vs 447k. It was a 9-week high for Spotlight while it was 60 Minutes best post reality result in 17 weeks.

Following, The Latest posted a 80k win over Nine News Late.

Over on 10, Hunted was up 20k from the previous Sunday ahead of today’s season final and for ABC Bay of Fires slipped 25k to a season low while Restoration Australia was up slightly.

The Sunday Afternoon AFL had one of its best results of the year while NLR was down 30 for this week’s game.

The Block generally builds as we go into Weeks 3 onwards. You just need to wait for all the drama fed to paid news spots to ramp up the ratings a bit. That will come soon.

Not much between The Voice and The Block.

The FIFA World Cup dis well. Numbers will be adjusted for the post match segment and US Marshall film that followed. Due to the extra time and penalty shootout

The Block will undoubtedly improve for especially the reveal episodes on Sunday nights.

Probably will, the post match section was the extra time and penalty shootout finished 15mins after that. Overall coverage finished 40mins later than anticipated

The Block versus the voice is one of the most competitive programming of the year. And both look strong to begin with.

If that is a figure for a FIFA match on a multichannel, tonight with the Matildas is going to be massive.

The voice straight after the news will probably get a decent number and the Matilda’s probably has a chance to get 1.7mill+ and even more if it’s a close game going to extra time etc

Still neck-and-neck between both reality launches, however in total Voice overtakes Block (and looks like former also actually overtook latter in metro overnight too - after time correcting?) But Nine’s has a comfortable lead in the key demos.

Despite Seven’s wins mostly across the board last night, I’d say a slightly better result for Nine, as Seven have very recently had the Women’s World Cup and Logies’ big ratings to promote Voice and its been heavily promoted too, including Seven News, H&A, BH&G and AFL.
Whereas Nine, even though they did have the Ashes and some sessions went high, I wouldn’t say they’ve had the same promotional exposure opportunities. Block is also really Nine’s second biggest (although debatable) show to Married, where Voice is easily Seven’s biggest and took a lot to snatch it from Nine and expensive to make.

Seven would want tonight to go big (between news and Matildas) and even tomorrow night (following tonight’s huge audience for promotion), if no increase, or worse still neck and neck or even worse Block comfortably in front, could be worrying signs for Seven - BVOD also no where near as high as previously (just 70k nationally, beaten by almost 50k by Block and even outrated by soccer!)

The VOZ numbers are always different to the OzTAM numbers (nothing to no with preliminary or adjusted). VOZ allocates some of the viewers that OzTAM claims are metro to the regional number.

ABC News claims almost 800k on a Sunday night (national). I’m still mystified why ABC management thought it would be a good idea to axe local editions.
