The second day of Nine’s Olympic coverage saw another total reach figure of well of 15 million with the Night session of the coverage averaging over 2.5 million and reaching 5.74 million. That included a 9Now figure of 331k for live viewing.

Viewers embraced every aspect of the coverage with the second session of the night over 1.74 million with later viewing over 800k, afternoon encore on 725k with early morning coverage over 500k and 9Gem coverage as high as +400k.

Nine’s share approached 60% with Seven on 18% and the other three networks in single digits.

9News averaged an amazing 1.628 million while Today in Paris was 820k.

Seven’s best was Seven News with a credible 1.12 million while Dancing With The Stars held up well with 742k. The afternoon AFL though took a hit with 329k

ABC’s best was News with 712k while Spicks and Specks slumped to 418k.

10 managed one top 30 entry with its repeat moving averaging just under 200k.

Even 9Go!'s Legend of Zorro re-run ranked, so non-Olympics viewers stayed with Nine :joy:

Nine News, wow. Today, goodness me. 9Gem early AM, quite incredible let alone main channel. Even the midday encore. NRL also got a boost, looks to have helped Gem’s afternoon live start of Olympics play too.

Seven bloody lucky they still achieved that figure for Seven News, also DWTS quite good all things considered, expect lower tonight though, while Paris is still only getting started.

@TV.Cynic Hope we get to see some market splits, a highlight of Tokyo’s data, at least every now and again if we can. The more the better given VOZ totally different to 2021. But if not, totally understandable :slight_smile:

Weekend Today magically has three coding instead of the usual 2 for Sunday - Early (new), normal and Extra (not “late” lke usual).

Dancing with The Stars held well against the competition.

@TV.Cynic whats the 1.7m ‘Night session 2’? There is also 456k for ‘night session 2’ on GEM but no ‘Night’ result for GEM.

The 10:30pm to 12am on 9 is ‘Late’ with 824k

The 2.5m average is only until 9pm, Nine’s VOZ codings (as posted by Cynic yesterday for reference) are different to the transmission EPGs, both timeslots and titles. No idea always why, Seven the same, makes it confusing.

N S2 is 9pm - 10:30pm.

There is a N - Gem, it was 317k, as seen above.

Yes, your “Late” interpretation is correct. And “Extended” is “Post Midnight”.

Until a time where a streaming product takes those events away from FTA.

If say Prime got the Olympics coverage in Australia viewers would go there.

This isn’t about FTA at all. It’s about people following what they want to watch to where it is.

It’s only a matter of time before streaming players are allowed to bid for big events.

Hopefully we don’t get to that point. Paid viewing is what helps kill sport - it should be offered, yes, but locking it entirely behind a paywill will kill it.
Look what the dud Fox+Seven deal has done to BBL.

A total of 13.4 million Australians have tuned into The 9Network’s broadcast of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 to date, representing half of the country’s population.

Olympic Games Paris 2024 Day 2 Night Session (19:00-21:00) was Australia’s No. 1 program with all key demos and Total People. 9Now was the No. 1 CFTA BVOD platform across Australia with Total People and all key demos, climbing to huge shares of 87.7% with People 25-54, 89.6% with People 16-39 and 86.3% with Total People. Those Olympic numbers are huge. Nine would be over the moon with those numbers. The reach numbers become very interesting too when you look at these long rolling coverages as people often tune in and out or watch small segments.

All things considered, Dancing with the Stars did well up against that competition. It feels like the perfect counter programming to the Olympics as would appeal to a different audience, whereas 10 seem to have pretty much given up. I wonder if Seven should have considered airing it twice a week over these couple of weeks but was probably too risky to burn them off.
