Sunday’s ratings looked similar to recent weeks with Nine again posting a dominant result. Seven would be relieved to rank second this week in network shares though ABC’s main channel was still ahead of Seven’s. Nine also had a big win in the key demos with 10 second (main channel and network).

Married At First Sight topped the table again in linear viewing despite slipping 30,000 from the previous week. That followed last week’s show topping 1 million in 7-day consolidated numbers and 2 million in Total TV viewing.

ABC’s Vera was also down by 40,000 but still made the top five shows for the night while Death in Paradise had a small increase. Australian Survivor was within 5k of the last week while the much discussed first “live” show of Australian Idol” was 7k higher than the previous Sunday’s result.

Later, 60 Minutes and Nine News Late were both top 10 entries for Nine while Seven’s repeat George Michael V Elton John was more popular than the previous week’s offering.

Meanwhile Nine’s afternoon coverage of the ONJ state memorial service pipped Seven’s coverage, winning all markets except Adelaide.

Weekend Sunrise made the top 20 but with its lowest audience of the year. Weekend Today also hit a 2023 low.

The Women’s T20 World Cup final topped the pay TV ratings, with the Australian innings coming in at No.2. We will have to wait until tomorrow for the final numbers for South Africa’s run chase (they lost by 19 runs).

Being the first network to announce live FTA coverage certainly helped.

The memorial broadcasts on the ABC and Sky News both missed the respective top 20 list. However, with the ABC’s numbers added, the total FTA audience exceeded half a million.

Last night my Foxtel didn’t tape MAFS for some reason (1st time it has happened) so I had to use Nine Now for the first time and chromecast to the TV.

As the figure of 928,000 does not include any Catch Up TV like this, where can I find the breakdown of people watching live compared to via the app?

I will definitely go back to watching through Foxtel because it is so much better when you can fast forward all the ads

MAFS is pulling more viewers than Idol and Survivor combined.

Nine had a rare win in all markets. Unusual to see in Perth that ABC’s main channel was ahead of Seven’s.

Nine was well ahead of the key demos with 10 second ahead of Seven.

Weekend Sunrise was 40k ahead of Weekend Today with both recording their lowest audiences of the year. Weekend Breakfast was another 20k further behind.

Survivor beat Idol in total people and was ahead of Idol in demographics yet 7 is doing another season next year .

Maybe 7 paid for two seasons in advance, and producing another season makes more economic sense than cancelling it?

Last year:

Sunday 27 2022

MARRIED AT FIRST SIGHT -SUN 1,007,000
DANCING WITH THE STARS: ALL STARS - SUN 605,000
AUSTRALIAN SURVIVOR SUN 499,000

Note that MAFS and Survivor will end up with higher Total TV numbers than the previous year while Idol will have a similar demo result to the much older skewing DWTS.

(News numbers were huge on this day due to flooding coverage).

From memory, Seven also benefited from the Winter Olympics. This helped as launching pad for the network in February last year.

It was well down on Pyeongchang 2018 though, somewhat surprising and disappointing considering Beijing’s excellent time difference. You could argue 2018 was boosted itsself by the Australian Open that summer immediately before it (Seven’s final year), the Winter Olympics then boosting MKR and a couple of months later the Gold Coast Comm Games also providing boosts.

Seven saw success with Tokyo (although hard lockdowns in Sydney and Melbourne), but not so much Beijing and Birmingham Comm Games last year. Perhaps due to Nine’s reality dominance now, as well as 10’s successes.

That and the following Sunday were the last time there were 2 Sunday bulletins with over one million viewers; and it took a big event to achieve that result. Nine hasn’t has a +million bulletin since on any day.

Good result overall when all audiences combined. And for mid/late Sunday afternoon. Clearly a very much loved person.

Are they doing another season though? Casting applications isn’t an indication a show will actually make it air.
