Last night’s Married At First Sight’s second commitment ceremony didn’t disappoint for Nine, up 125k on the first to 2.1 million, the highest rating for the franchise since the start of the VOZ rating system.

The closest competition came from Australian Idol where the top 30 were finalised for an audience of 817k, down 75k from last week. I’m A Celebrity’s 12th season crowned its Queen of the Jungle averaging 571k. That was up 80k week-on-week but down from the previous season final that had 651k. For ABC, Muster Dogs was up slightly to 516k.

Later, the 60 Minutes season premiere made the top five with 952k. That compares to last year’s first episode that had 960k. Murder On A Cruise series premiered for Seven managing just over 300k while NCIS: Sydney made the top 30 for the first time in four weeks with 203k.

Day 16 of the Winter Olympics ahead of the Closing Ceremony this morning saw the Night Session 2 with 835k on the main channel and 725k on 9Gem at the top rankings.

Earlier 9News had a 110k win at 6pm for a total blitz of prime time for Nine. Breakfast saw Weekend Sunrise down to 372k but still ahead of Weekend Today with 292.

In the afternoon the Supercars on Seven did well to average 336k for the main race.

Is this a coding error, as there’s already one for “Night Gem” and “Night S2”? Everywhere had Olympics on 9Gem prior to 9:50pm local, due to Married and 60 Minutes which both ran lengthy.

MAFS RECORDS ITS HIGHEST TOTAL TV AUDIENCE IN VOZ HISTORY DOMINATING VIEWING AND LEADING THE 9NETWORK TO A SUNDAY WIN

Married at First Sight was the No. 1 program with Total People and all key demos across Australia and in all five metro capitals. It achieved a National Total TV Reach of 3.541 million and a Total TV National Audience of 2.101 million - up 16.4% year-on-year and the highest Total TV National Audience in VOZ history. On 9Now, it recorded a BVOD audience of 704,000 - up an impressive 35.9% when compared to the same day last year.

9News Sunday was the No. 1 news bulletin with Total People and all key demos across Australia and in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. It was also the No. 1 news bulletin with People 25-54 and People 16-39 in Adelaide. The combined national bulletins secured a National Total TV Reach of 2.404 million and a Total TV National Audience of 1.367 million . On 9Now, its BVOD Audience of 193,000 was up a massive 69.3% year-on-year.

60 Minutes was a timeslot winner with Total People and all key demos across Australia. It achieved a National Total TV Reach of 2.189 million, a Total TV National Audience of 952,000 - up 12.5% year-on-year and a BVOD audience of 171,000 - up 39.0% on the same morning last year.

Weekend Today was the breakfast program of choice with Total People in Sydney and Brisbane. It recorded a National Total TV Reach of 836,000, a Total TV National Audience of 292,000 - up 7.4**%** year-on-year and a BVOD audience of 45,000 - up a huge 55.2% on the same morning last year.

The 9Network was the No.1 network on Sunday across the 5 City Metro recording shares in excess of 46% with Total People and all key demos.

9Now was the No.1 CFTA BVOD Platform on Sunday across Australia recording shares in excess of 59% with Total People and all key demos.

Australian Idol and the I’m A Celeb Final couldn’t compete, but did okay numbers against Nine.

Massive ratings for MAFS but 60 Minutes lost more than half of the lead-in, some of which went to Winter Olympics on 9Gem.

Look, what I’d say is they didn’t exist to compete. They existed to take audience away from MAFS.

And they did a damn good job at that.

If you added them up together less 10% of potential channel-flicking, that’s a total of 1.25 million.

Nine’s releases said their codings had been:

Night: 7.30-9pm.

Night S2: 9-10.30pm.

Late: 10.30pm-midnight.

Late Extended: Post midnight.

But last night also had one for 9Gem.

My guess would be they forgot to remove a coding due to 60 Mins return and that they instead represented previous nights/weeks, so “Night Gem” is probably pre-8.30pm and “Night” is probably 8.30pm to 9pm. Suggesting more were tuned-in to Milano Cortina’s final day earlier in the evening and later in the evening than mid-evening. But without clarification or correction from Nine, maybe not until end-of-week adjusting, won’t know for sure.

I would say the Night Session was also on 9Gem but as there was no Night Session on Nine’s main channel it didn’t have to be differentiated and was just labelled as Nine.
