The first Sunday of the sixth week of this year’s survey saw some big changes with a new line up for ABC losing audience for the public broadcaster to land fourth with its lowest Sunday share of the survey. That followed five consecutive second place rankings for the broadcaster’s main channel in previous weeks.
As a result, all other networks improved including a 3-point boost for Seven while Nine was up almost three as well. Seven and Nine both had their highest Sunday shares of the survey. Nine again won the demos with 10 (main channel and network).
Compared to the previous Sunday, that was a public holiday in some markets, many results were up week-on-week. Married At First Sight led the way up by 60,000 for its best result in two weeks. For 10, Australian Survivor made it first top 5 appearance recording the show’s highest audience of the season, up +50k on the previous week. Not to be outdone, Australian Idol also posted a season high audience, up 50k.
Meanwhile the debut of the new Australian drama In Our Blood drew a disappointing 192,000. ABC will be hoping for catch up viewing to boost the number. That followed Death in Paradise that was down 100k week-on-week.
Earlier in the day, Sunday afternoon AFL was back helping to provide a big lead-in to Seven News in Melbourne that posted its biggest audience of the year with 305,000. Nine’s NRL game was up 20k. Later, The Project posted its biggest Sunday audience of the year - 7pm and across the hour.
Later in the night, Nine was well ahead of the competition with 60 Minutes, ranking fourth overall and number one in its timeslot. Seven’s offering of An Audience With Adele with 200k was on par with its recent Sunday post reality offerings.
Meanwhile two NRL games topped Foxtel’s rating that saw 19 of the top 20 sporting programs.

Not a good start for In Our Blood. Could it due to the scheduling or topic?

Just 3k separated Married and Survivor in 16-39s in Melbourne! I reckon Survivor has been a hit for 10 this year, all things considered, well done.
–
NRL saw a higher audience in Sydney than AFL in Melbourne (a blow out after half time - so somewhat surprising Nine News weren’t much closer in Melbourne too), however the latter was over 120k ahead of the former thanks to impressive Adelaide and Perth results again (and all different local games at different times) being No. 1 non-news programs there.

Survivor has beaten married in this demo and 25-54 in melbourne a handful of times now.
Doing so well.

Probably doubtful and of course we’ll never know, but you wonder if advertisers have observed this and instead of focussing on Married shifted their spend to Survivor in that hard-to-reach key age group in the vital Melbourne market? Can’t imagine Nine would be 100% thrilled, used to totally domianting every metric in Q1 in recent years. Even total people in Sydney and Melbourne under 100k to Married, on its biggest night. And further disruptions especially in some markets with the AFL and all eyes on that and its networks promos x3-4 3 hour tiemslots at the back-end of each week now, although the realities coming to and end and Easter break, but yeah Q2 will be a tight race and fascinating now that FTA’s biggest show (save for Block) wraps and the FTA landscape continues to diminish (save for a surprise hit season and AFL/NRL).

Sully:
NRL saw a higher audience in Sydney than AFL in Melbourne (a blow out after half time - so somewhat surprising Nine News weren’t much closer in Melbourne too), however the latter was over 120k ahead of the former thanks to impressive Adelaide and Perth results again (and all different local games at different times) being No. 1 non-news programs there.
It’s a bit of a paradox. Even though its a blow out that may have seen people dropping off, the Sunday AFL and NRL games would both nearly always peak just before the news. The bigger factor on Sunday’s is the AFL telecast starts an hour earlier when far less people are watching TV. Also, those with foxtel / kayo can switch over to the later game starting at 430.

Had a feeling it was going to flop. I think the subject matter is too depressing and the adverts didn’t really help.
Maybe the ABC should run something lighter like Under the Vines at 8.30pm on a Sunday. It’s already big on a Saturday night and could possibly do better on a Sunday. In Our Blood could be shown at 9.30pm.

Not exactly original either, with several even recent excellent series with similar story lines.

I havent watched it yet but it looked to me like it was going to be a cross between the movie Philadelphia and It’s A Sin without any of the fun stuff.

DANCING WITH THE STARS: ALL STARS - SUN 921,000
AUSTRALIAN SURVIVOR SUN 888,000
Really appreciate you posting these numbers because it’s a good benchmark to measure the success and failings of certain shows.
Interestingly, in 2022 there was a wider gap between MAFS at number 1 and then Seven with DWTS and Ten with Survivor: Gap between Nine (MAFS) and Seven (DWTS): 1.143m, gap between Nine (MAFS) and Ten (Survivor) gap: 1.176m.
2023’s seen Ten and Seven make a bit more progress in closing that gap: Gap between Nine (MAFS) and Seven (Idol): 1.055m, gap between Nine (MAFS) and Ten (Survivor): 953k.
