The post-Easter survey period kicked off with a very close Sunday contest. Seven was 0.4 ahead of Nine in network shares and just 0.1 on the main channel. ABC’s share was up by five thanks to British drama while 10 posted its highest Sunday share of the 2023 survey. Meanwhile, SBS dropped 5 week-on-week.

The three-way reality battle delivered similar results to last week as LEGO Masters posted a season high. Farmers was down 25k on the Monday launch but up on the rest of the week while I’m A Celebrity was down slightly from last Sunday.

ABC’s night was boosted by the premier of a new season of Midsomer Murders, up 300k on the previous week’s In Our Blood. Earlier in the day, a new episode of Bluey again made the top five in preliminary numbers.

Later, 60 Minutes was on a season low of just 320,000 – down 120k on the previous episode while Code 1 was just under 200k for Seven, just behind NCIS Hawaii’s preliminary result for 10. Later, Nine News Late had its lowest Sunday rating of the year.

Weekend Sunrise was the only breakfast show to make the top 20.

Only 10,000 Sydney viewers watched GWS’s narrow win over Hawthorn in the AFL yesterday?!

These two episodes were shown back to back yesterday morning: new episode then a repeat episode.

Seven News and in turn Farmer might’ve been higher last night, had the AFL been the Collingwood vs St Kilda game on FTA in Melbourne and the West Coast (delayed) closer for Perth, but it was really after 8:30pm that really let them down and Nine into it in terms of shares with Code 1 and I thought pretty late promotion too, probably be dropped next week

I’d disagree with that, Hawthorn are a fairly big team and have long been considered (maybe someone like Geelong would argue with this) the ‘fifth biggest’ outside the traditional ‘Big 4’. Having been a successful team for a long time (only really bar the 90s) especially the past 15 years and some memorable history in the 80s with big teams.

You have to remember it is a national vs 5-city comparison. Nine will cover that gap when regional is included.

I realise that however the Hawthorn team in 2023 is destined for bottom four as they are undergoing a major rebuild of the list. Therefore there is less interest from neutral supporters in their games. The Giants have very few supporters in general and are also performing poorly this year.

Fair, however I was trying to say that there should still be significant audience from Hawks supporters (although less than Collingwood/Essendon/Carlton/Richmond probably in that order too), which evidently have also dropped off with their current performance.

Yes thats true but even allowing for that, it has to be a concern for Nine because Foxtel do not usually outrate them on these numbers

An AFL game runs for 3 hours, NRL 2 hours, so averages for AFL are usually lower on Foxtel even though a similar amount of viewers might be tuned in to both sports at any given time.

In 2020 when the AFL shortened game times to 2.5 hours due to COVID the averages were way up.

True, but Nine’s numbers also look to be up from last year, so it’s not as if they are going backwards

I think the Foxtel coverage is way better than Nine’s and that is why they are picking up audience but its just my opinon
