Nine News scored the highest rated news bulletin of the year on Sunday, topping 1.76 million in preliminary numbers while The Block that followed hit another season high of 1.73 million for its Kitchen Reveals.
That followed the afternoon NRL Finals Footy that produced one of the most remarkable finals ever with the win to the Broncos coming after Extra and Golden Point time. Because of the 27 minute overrun that saw the News delayed this will potentially impact the east coast news ratings. The NRL rating of 1.054 million may also need to be adjusted and compares to last year’s equivalent game that had 825k.
While The Block was up +100k, The second battle round of The Voice was down 50k to 892k while The Amazing Race Australia Celebrity visit to Uzbekistan had 548k, 100k lower than the previous week’s Survivor final.
Two season finals on ABC last night saw Austin up slightly to 385k and The Family Next Door to 271k.
Later, 60 Minutes topped one million for just the second time this year to be well ahead of any competition. 7NEWS Spotlight dropped 100k to 454k with 24 Hours In Police Custody missing the top 30. Over on 10, Watson returned to the schedule after a week’s break also outside the top 30 with 151k.
The World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025 Day 2 had 244k on Nine, 225k on SBS Viceland and 144k on 9Gem while the Davis Cup also made the top rankings with 91k.
Weekend Sunrise was lower than usual though still 125k ahead of Weekend Today.

Huge day of ratings for Nine starting with the NRL qualifying final, then The Block, 60 Minutes, then the athletics. 9GO!’s telecast of Davis Cup also made the top 30.
All the luck of Sunday night was on Nine’s side with two remarkable finishes.
The other shows were simply natural drawcards.
I think share-wise, 13.6% (all day) is the largest margin of victory Nine has over Seven in quite some time. Cannot speak to the 11.3% in primetime though.

9 News took a big hit in Melbourne when viewers tuned in at 6pm only to see Rugby on their screens. As a result, Seven News won comfortably in Melbourne.
Interesting how the NRL vs SANFL/WAFL was a lot closer in Perth than in Adelaide… Perth Bears influence maybe? Or perhaps maybe not directly comparable due to time differences?
Fantastic ratings from the NRL, but man, nine took a huge hit airing it on the main channel in the southern markets. The overtime gave fantastic results in the northern states, but it gave 7 an easy win in the southern states. This isn’t really a knock though, because 7 have been taking the same hit with their AFL finals coverage.
Nine won Sydney with 42.7% to Seven’s 21.1% and Brisbane with 44.4% to Seven’s 24.4%.
Nine also won Melbourne 33.6% to 26.8% but Seven won Perth by 2 points and Adelaide by 6.
