On a very crowded night that featured to series launches and a couple of finals there were some good results and some not so good. Seven took out the night with its highest Sunday share so far this year.

Nine’s fortunes for the next few weeks took a tumble with the launch of its new reality tent-pole The Summit returning a disappointing number of just 401,000. ABC’s share took a hit with another Sunday miss as the new Australian drama The Messenger managed only 238,000 with the caveat that it will likely pick up audience in consolidated numbers.

Meanwhile SBS secured its best Sunday share of the survey period as the Eurovision Final was repeated in primetime. Despite missing the top 20 it boosted SBS by up to 4 points from its usual Sunday share. The morning telecast of the live final did best with the Winner’s announcement on 299,000 in preliminary numbers (though the Destination Flavour that followed ranking in the top 20 suggests an adjustment might be necessary). That is the highest number for the winner since 2019. The evening broadcast was one of the lowest results, however, down 20k from last year.

Farmer Wants a Wife blitzed the competition, at least in total people numbers with a season high 668,000 for the first part of its 2-part finale. 10’s MasterChef had the edge in all key demos.

Later, 7News Spotlight had its biggest win over 60 Minutes this year while The Latest also bettered Nine News Late that had a rare miss from the top 20 with its lowest audience of the year.

The poor showing for The Summit could potentially have an impact on Seven’s Million Dollar Island – it might presage a poor result for a similar looking show or it might present an opportunity to counter-program against an underperformer.

I never thought I’d say this but maybe Blow Up might have a chance to survive now that The Summit is a dud on arrival.

Looks like viewers could smell a Survivor ripoff from a mile away and voted with their remotes.

However, ff viewers are looking for a rip-off they don’t have to go any further than Blow Up that is almost scene for scene an imitation of Lego Masters.

My prediction was very close with Farmer and MC, but way off with Summit (got half)! Some head scratching at Nine today I’m guessing, a pretty bad result, when you consider all that heavy marketing everywhere (one of the largest I can remember and no doubt very expensive to produce) and looking at its ranking in total people and especially key demos compared to others, outdone by numerous in earlier or later timeslots, even ABC’s Bluey and SBS’ Eurovision ranked. Plus Seven News including Melbourne despite no AFL and Spotlight (despite a promoted Cleo story all week long and headline on news. com.au this morning) were winners again, as well as The Latest. Summit’s Melbourne number must be concerning.

I do wonder if this spells bad news for Blow Up and especially Million Dollar Island though.

My prediction with The Summit debut was way off the mark as well.

Seven’s decision to stretch the finales of Farmer Wants a Wife across three weeks (part 1 last night, part 2 next week and reunion the week after) is starting to pay off.

Very crowded morning with Eurovision, Bluey and Weekend Sunrise all making the top 20.

Would The Summit be more expensive than let’s say Ninja Warrior in terms of production?

If so then I reckon Nine will be wanting Ninja back ASAP with the way The Summit’s rating.

Itll be interesting to see where the eurovision on demand viewers get added to, the Am or Pm numbers.

Also its been nice not having threads locked lately. I meant to say a while ago i found if you click on a user you have the option to no longer see their posts so wont get dragged into roundabout debates.

In a little bit of good news for Nine, on m/c, Harry Potter marathon started being ‘encored’ on 9Go! last night and did well, pushing the channel to a high share (for that channel’s average and night), while not large total people and didn’t rank in younger viewers, they’re all long run times which for 70k-odd drives m/c share.

So if all else fails, at least they’ll get a couple of % back there each Sunday, which if you were to instead add that to main channel would’ve been about 20% and what’s usually a good if not winning result for a given night for Channel 7 or Channel 9.

–

And as previously discussed in other threads the past month, they should’ve just started with 9Go! originally and not programmed/sold for main channel and their ROI would’ve been much better than what they’re currently getting on Saturday nights on Channel 9.

So interesting that Seven is programming news at 9.30pm on a Sunday night, and the move is already paying dividends

Someone’s making a lot of $$$ from Bluey. Never seen a show rate like this.

To hit 300k in the live morning numbers is pretty impressive. More and more people are watching the morning telecast it seems to avoid spoilers. Also the primetime broadcast has way too many commercials and filler. It’s a drag to watch.

The Summit was actually ok IMO (even though it’s pretty much a rip off of the Bridge concept with some Survivor style vote offs added to it). The 2 hour episode was way too long and it did drag in parts. Had that been compressed to an hour it could have been good.

No AFL lead-in yesterday certainly hurt Seven’s 6pm News in Melbourne.
The blockbuster Carlton v Collingwood clash in the Sunday 3.20pm timeslot should turn things around next weekend.

They still won though, many would’ve been watching Collingwood vs GWS on Foxtel at the same time as well.

I had a feeling The Summit would flop. From the promos it seemed very similar to The Bridge and Alone Australia. With Ten forced to run The Bridge in place of Masterchef two weeks ago it might have helped put viewers off The Summit.

Same here initially, however I changed my view the last couple of weeks, just got a vibe based on promos getting a little better, better marketing and what seemed like some buzz (I’m sure there are others who share a similar view), but yeah wasn’t to be, can’t say the result is a total shock - however I feel Nine genuinely thought this would/could be successful, possibly an instant hit (like Ninja or Lego) - unlike Seven who I don’t believe would share that view on Blow Up, I’m positive they’d be worried for tonight and MDI.

I thought that Summit could have got almost double that result. Nine really ramped up the on air promos to saturation levels in the last few days. I though the show’s production quality was pretty good.

Is it possible that The Summit may have already peaked and may only be downhill from here? (I’ll let myself out)
